Fujitsu Demonstrates Multi-Vendor Interoperability at UNH InterOp Lab's 10 Gig Data-Center

10 Gig Community Validates Market-Readiness of 10 Gig Technology

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 5 -- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading supplier of 10 Gigabit (Gb) Ethernet switches and innovative computer products has widely tested and verified interoperability in multi-vendor 10 Gigabit Ethernet fabrics during the weeklong "10 Gigabit Ethernet Technology Summit" conducted by the renowned University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), one of the industry's most highly regarded third-party proving grounds for interoperability.

The lab setting provided an ideal environment for proving the readiness of 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology for deployment in data centers. The testing verified interoperability between many companies' 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches, cables, 10GBASE-T data ports and iSCSI storage devices, the primary components of a "unified fabric" using high-performance Ethernet for data and storage in critical high-end networks. Many are watching the development of 10 Gig Ethernet technology as a standard unifying technology alternative to the current practice of wiring such networks with a mix of closed and proprietary technologies.

"Fujitsu continues to deliver exceptional product innovation and design, ensuring network managers that the Fujitsu XG series switches will interoperate in their existing network," said Vic Herring, senior director, new products group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "This interoperability is critical for network managers who will utilize Fujitsu's low latency, high bandwidth, 10 Gb Ethernet technology in building powerful, high-performance systems without sacrificing compatibility."

"The companies that participated in the first 10 Gigabit Ethernet Technology Summit demonstrated a strong commitment to interoperability and the future of Ethernet," said Bob Noseworthy, technical director, UNH-IOL. "We saw that the technology is ready, and that from a technical standpoint, there is very little to hold back the deployment of 10 Gig in even the most demanding data center environments."

The 10 Gigabit Ethernet Technology Summit test plans encompassed multiple components of 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks, including LRM, SFP+ and XFP optical interconnects, CX4 copper, backplane Ethernet ports, iSCSI targets and initiators, iWARP and RDMA services, 10 GBASE-T devices and 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching.
