FSK Transceivers suits telemetry and security systems.

Press Release Summary:

Manufactured in 44-pin LQFP packages, single-chip RadioWire(TM) FSK transceivers transmit and receive FSK data rates between 2.4 and 128 Kbps. Receiving sensitivity and output power are rated at -105 dBm and 10 dBm (max) respectively. MICRF500 units operate from 700 MHz to 1 GHz, and MICRF501 units range from 300 to 600 MHz. On-chip frequency synthesizer ensures multi-channel and frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum communications.

Micrel's Frequency-Hopping Single-Chip Transceivers Target Telemetry, Security Systems, & Low Data-Rate Networks

-...transmit and receive FSK data at any rate between 2.4Kbps and 128Kbps
-...best-in-class receiving sensitivity: -105dBm
-...output power: 10dBm (max.)

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- (July 8, 2002) - Addressing the needs of telemetry, security systems and low data-rate networks, two new single-chip RadioWire(TM) FSK transceivers are now available from Micrel Semiconductor (NASDAO: MCRL), an industry leader in analog, power management and high speed communications integrated circuits

Intended for license-free Industrial-Scientific-Medical (ISM) Band applications, the MICRF500 operates from 700MHz to 1GHz, and the MICRF501 ranges from 300MHz to 600MHz. The MICRF500 covers the European 868MHz ISM frequency and the US 902MHz to 928MHz band. The MICRF501 is ideally suited for the 433MHz European ISM band and the 300MHz ISM band in the US.

"These transceivers supplement Micrel's existing line of QwikRadio(TM) receivers and transmitters," said Zhong Li, product marketing manager. "QwikRadio devices are ideal for fixed-frequency, single-direction RF links, while the new RadioWire(TM) transceivers address the needs of more demanding applications requiring a bi-directional link. Frequency hopping by the RadioWire(TM) devices increases link reliability and extends range."

Ideal for battery-powered systems (standby current <1uA), these new transceivers are able to transmit and receive FSK data at any rate between 2.4Kbps and 128Kbps. Output power is 10dBm (max.). Receiving sensitivity is -105dBm, the best in class. An on-chip frequency synthesizer ensures that the transceivers can handle multi-channel as well as frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum communications.

"The MICRF500 and MICRF501 offer the best combination of low power, high performance and low cost. They represent the best solutions for industrial, automotive and medical remote monitoring systems," Li said.

The MICRF500 and MICRF501 are manufactured in a 44-pin LQFP package. Samples of both devices are currently available, and production quantities are stock to 13 weeks ARO. MICRF500 and MICRF501 are both priced at $6.00 each when purchased in a quantity of 1,000 units.
