APW Electronic Solutions Now Offers Conduction Cooled Frame Assembly Prototypes in 10 Days

Poway, CA. APW Electronic Solutions is now offering Conduction Cooled Frame Assemblies, designed for circuit boards requiring cooling in harsh environments, in only 10 days. These frame
assemblies are especially useful where convection cooling is not possible. A standard design is offered with an optional mounting hole and stiffening rib location that will adapt to any typical board design.

The Conduction Cooled Frame Assemblies have several features. A sandwich structure consisting of a top frame, insulator and backing plate assists in thermal management as well as minimizes stress due to various coefficients of thermal expansion. In addition, the high performance Series 48SL Five Piece Wedge-Loks© provide high clamping force with even pressure distribution for low thermal resistance out to the cold wall. Extractors disengage the CCA from board connectors. For corrosion resistance, the assembly is available in black anodize, chem film and electroless nickel plating.

Aluminum 6061-T6 provides high thermal conductivity as well as lightweight support. The frame and backing plate are each machined from a solid piece to assure continuous heat flow and
structural integrity. To prevent inadvertent insertion into the wrong chassis slot, code keys are also an available accessory to the Conduction Cooled Assembly.

The component area can be customized to match your board and application. Configuration for compliance to VITA 20-2001 PCI Mezzanine Card Standard as well as a Flex-Frame design to
reduce lateral force on connectors, detailed machining to envelope hot components, custom silkscreening and other custom considerations are becoming more common.

APW's experience with proprietary customer boards allows board designers to concentrate more on the electrical configuration of their board by taking the guesswork out of the mechanical design
of the frame. Configuration for compliance to IEEE 1101.2 and VITA 30.1 is available for both VME and cPCI applications.
