Form-in-Place Gaskets provide EMI shielding.

Press Release Summary:

Cho-Form® 5537 gaskets provide galvanic corrosion resistance when dispensed on conductively painted plastic, plated plastic, or metal electronic enclosures. Material consists of one component, electrically conductive silicone elastomer with nickel-plated graphite particles. Gaskets cure at room temperature in 4 hr, provide shielding effectiveness above 70 dB from 200 MHz to 10 GHz, and meet UL 94V-0 flammability requirements.

Original Press Release:

Fast Cure, Form-in-Place EMI Gaskets Combine Superior Shielding, Corrosion Resistance and Long-Term Stability

FEBRUARY 28, 2003, WOBURN, MASSACHUSETTS -- Chomerics, a division of the Parker Hannifin Corporation, has introduced Cho-Form® 5537 fast curing, form-in-place EMI shielding gasket material. Cho-Form 5537 gaskets provide high levels of shielding and galvanic corrosion resistance when dispensed on conductively painted plastic, plated plastic, or metal electronic enclosures, such as cellular phone housings. The new gasket material is a one component, electrically conductive silicone elastomer containing nickel-plated graphite particles.

Cho-Form 5537 gaskets are robotically dispensed onto customer enclosures or castings. Gaskets cure at room temperature in about 4 hours, allowing fast handling, QC inspection, and packaging of dispensed parts. The material demonstrates strong adhesion to zinc die-castings and painted or plated plastics. Fully cured 5537 gaskets provide shielding effectiveness above 70 dB from 200 MHz to 10 GHz, and meet UL 94V-0 flammability requirements. Their strong shielding performance and long term stability have been validated in severe environments, such as salt fog, elevated temperatures, and high temperature/high humidity cycling. Test data is available from Chomerics.

Cho-Form 5537 material is provided in one-tenth gallon (378.5 cc) or 1 liter (1000 cc) aluminum cartridges containing 600 grams or 2000 grams of compound. 5537 is the newest material in the Cho-Form family of form-in-place, conductive elastomer EMI gaskets. Chomerics provides gasket dispensing services, design assistance, and parts prototyping from a global network of facilities. Prices for dispensed gaskets on cellular handsets or other small wireless devices are typically less than $1.00 per part. Actual price depends on gasket cross-section size, developed length, dispense programming details, and part volume levels.

Chomerics, a division of Parker Hannifin Corporation's Seal Group, provides a wide range of EMI Shielding and Thermal Management Materials and services to OEM electronics companies around the world in the Telecom, Information Technology, Power Conversion, Military and Automotive markets. Since 1961, Chomerics has been the primary force in the development of electrically conductive elastomers for use as extruded, molded and form-in-place EMI gaskets. Chomerics also offers an extensive family of thermal interface materials, which transfer heat from electronic components to heat sinks.
