Pactiv Repositions PolyPlank® Foam Plank Line with New Offerings

Lake Forest. Ill. (August 19, 2002)- Pactiv Corporation (NYSE: PTV) is repositioning, relaunching and rebranding its PolyPlank® foam plank line under four distinct product offerings.

Pactiv had accumulated multiple plank products over the past several years as a result of acquisitions and business partnerships. Many of the acquired products were only offered in certain geographies. The repositioning, under Pactiv's Engineered Foams Group, will now enable a consistent product offering across the entire United States.

The products being launched nationally under the PolyPlank® foam plank brand are:

o PolyPlank® PLK foam plank. An extruded polyethylene foam plank (or single crossection), PLK cushions fragile products against repeated impact while reducing shipping costs significantly. The product is available in a variety of densities- 1.7- to 9.0-pounds per cubic foot (pcf)-and can be easily fabricated into any desired shape using conventional tools.
o PolyPlank® LAM foam plank. This product consists of multiple layers of extruded foam laminated to each other. The offering enables a broader range of plant thickness and length. (Thickness ranges between ½- to 6-inches.) Laminated plank can be produced in various lengths, to improve yields for specific applications.
o PolyPlank® MDL foam plank. MDL is a multiple density laminate which features a 1/8-inch, 6 pcf, extruded polyethylene skin laminated to polyethylene plank. This enables the fabrication of three-dimensional designs with a single cut. The "hinge" properties of the skin enables die-cuts with flip outs to be shipped flat reducing freight cost and packaging storage costs. MDL strengthens expandable grid designs which provide improved material yield.
o PolyPlank® PP. PP is a rigid, polypropylene plank product mostly used as a core material for recreational products. However, it also offers excellent cushioning properties for heavy weight packaging applications such as cushioned pallets.

The PolyPlank® foam plank line is available in a variety of densities, colors and options (anti-stat, fire retardant). It can be die-cut, heat-sealed, welded, glued, saw cut, skived, water jet cut, routed and drilled to precise specifications. Ideal cushioning applications include: electronic parts, computer
components and medical devices. Ideal manufacturing applications include: automotive, military, sporting goods, etc.
