Flow Meters suit automated and robotic machinery.

Press Release Summary:

Offered in ½, ¾, 1, 1½, and 2 in. pipe sizes, CoolPoint(TM) vortex shedding flow meters measure and monitor flows of cooling water, water/glycol coolant, and low-viscosity fluids in process industries. Units come with ±1% full-scale accuracy, flow repeatability of ±.25% of actual flow, and 1% accuracy pulse out for totalization and batching. Other features include flow turndown of 20:1 and field adjustability of flowmeter response time to 4-20 mA transmitter flow rates.

Universal Flow Monitors Upgrades Coolpoint Flowmeters for Automated and Robotic Machinery

Universal Flow Monitors, Inc. introduces upgrades in CoolPoint(TM) vortex shedding flowmeters for improved flow accuracy, increased turndown and response-rate adjustability in automated and robotic machinery applications.

The CoolPoint(TM) upgrades provide added capabilities and greater flexibility in measuring and monitoring flows of cooling water, water/glycol coolant and low-viscosity fluids in most process industries. The new features are offered as nominally priced options on the CoolPoint(TM) series' five most popular pipe sizes: ½ inch, ¾ inch, 1 inch, 1 ½ inches and 2 inches.

Improved Flow Accuracy - The five CoolPoint(TM) models are now available with ±1 percent full-scale accuracy, compared with ±2 percent FS as a standard feature. Flow repeatability of ±.25 percent (¼ of 1 percent) of actual flow continues as standard. The additional accuracy combined with continued high repeatability provides inherent advantages in measuring and monitoring precise flows for demanding applications such as batching. Improved-accuracy units also feature 1 percent accuracy pulse out for totalization and batching.

Increased Turndown (Rangeability) - Flow turndown of 20:1 is now an option on the five CoolPoint(TM) models, up from 10:1 turndown as standard. Turndown is the ratio of the maximum to the minimum flow rate that a flowmeter can measure. The increased turndown ratio improves user capability to detect, read and record low flows, an advantage in many batching operations and in standardizing on a single flowmeter model for multiple applications.

Response-Rate Adjustability - Field adjustability of flowmeter response time to 4-20 mA transmitter flow rates is a new feature offered on the five models. The user can adjust the meter's response time from .9 (nine-tenths) seconds up to 7.5 seconds. This adjustability enables the user to set the meter for a very fast response time, a necessity for signaling a robotic controller immediately in event of trouble, or a slower time that minimizes effect of flow fluctuation and enables a control system to respond to data based on flow averages.

The upgraded CoolPoint(TM) models accommodate maximum flow rates as follows: ½
inch size, 12 gallons per minute (45 liters per minute); ¾ inch, 25 GPM (95 LPM); 1 inch, 50 GPM (190 LPM); 1 ½ inches, 100 GPM (380 LPM); and 2 inches, 200 GPM (750 LPM).

CoolPoint(TM) flowmeters have no moving parts to stick or coat, eliminating potential for jamming. The series also includes ¼ inch, 3 inch and 4 inch models for flow rates up to 600 GPM (2271 LPM). The ¼ inch and ½ inch sizes are offered in 316 stainless steel construction for low-viscosity corrosive fluids and water with chemicals added. Pipe sizes from ¾ inch to 4 inches are available with a temperature transmitter for flow applications involving heat removal.
