Float/Weight provides low level liquid sensing.

Press Release Summary:

Float/Weight Accessory detects liquid levels as low as 1.25 in. in flex gauges up to 60 ft. Sensing element rests on bottom of tank while float rests inside weight for accurate zero reading. When used with M-Series level sensors, system has non-linearity less than 0.008% FS or 1/16 in. and hysteresis less than 0.002% FS or 0.015 in. It operates in process temperatures from -40 to 257°F, outputs average and multi-point temperatures, and provides temperature accuracy of ±0.5°F.

MTS Introduces New Float/Weight Design for Low Level Liquid Sensing

CARY, N.C. (October 21, 2002) - MTS Sensors has enhanced its line of liquid level sensor accessories by introducing a new float and weight combination designed to detect liquid levels as low as 1.25" in long flex gauges up to 60 feet. By reducing the height of its 11-pound weight, the flexible sensing element may rest easily on the bottom of a tank floor while the float rests inside the weight resulting in a more accurate zero reading. Because of its close proximity to the tank floor, the float is able to lift off at1.25" (liquid level or interface detection begins at 1.25").

"Traditionally, longer liquid level sensors require a 4-6" dead zone," said MTS Level Products, Marketing Manager, Adrian Totten. "But this new design enables the float to read very low liquid and interface levels, which is crucial for high commodity products, such as in the general chemical, petroleum or alcoholic beverage industries."

To ensure accurate level readings and low level liquid interface detection, MTS raised the magnet position to accommodate for the new float/weight design. The float/weight accessory may be used in conjunction with all M-Series flexible sensors. The weight has a total diameter of 7.50". Because MTS sensors detect level, interface and temperature simultaneously, the sensor may be installed through a single hole.

When used with MTS' M-Series level sensors, the complete sensing system has non-linearity less than 0.008% full scale (FS) or 1/16" and hysteresis less than 0.002% FS or 0.015". It operates in process temperatures from -40 to 257°F (-40 to 125°C), outputs average and multi-point temperatures (up to 5 digital thermometers) and provides temperature accuracy of ±0.5°F (±0.28°C).

MTS the inventor of magnetostrictive sensing technology provides numerous performance benefits when compared to alternative sensing technologies such as radar sensing. Radar only senses level in a vessel, whereas the M-Series Digital sensing element can sense inventory level, interface level and temperature measurement. With an MTS sensor, the installer need only drill one hole for all measurement capabilities resulting in a total installed cost. Also, because MTS offers a flexible sensing element to 60' it is ideal for upgrades to existing tanks using older mechanical, capacitance or radar technologies.
