TRUMPF Spotlights New Automated Flatsheet Laser Cutting Machine at Westec 2004

FARMINGTON, Conn., November 14, 2003 - At Westec 2004 in booth
3532, TRUMPF Inc. will spotlight their latest concept in flatsheet laser cutting, the new TRUMATIC (TC) L 2510 XL FMC, a machine designed specifically for automated production.

This new compact and productive flexible manufacturing cell, the
TC L 2510 XL FMC combines a load and unload device with a high-
speed laser cutting machine. A rapid in-line load and unload device takes care of all material handling tasks and eliminates the need for a traditional pallet changer.

"The result is a more productive, fully-automated machine, with a
footprint comparable to that of a pallet changer machine," says Dan Robinson, laser product group manager for TRUMPF Inc. "Designed from the start for automation, the TC L 2510 XL FMC is the perfect synchronization of a cutting machine and automated material handling."

All of the TC L 2510 XL FMC components, including the new TRUMPF
TCF 1 laser resonator, were designed to offer users a cost-effective option for automated laser production.

The machine achieves optimal results in thin gauge material up to half-inch-thick carbon steel. The flying optic design achieves high processing speeds and consistent accuracy independent of material weight. Optimal cut consistency is assured by integral mounting of the laser resonator to the machine frame.

The integrated material handling system reduces manual labor
requirements and frees up the operator to concentrate on other tasks or operate another machine. "The TC L 2510 XL FMC's flexible design offers efficient production for any lot size from one prototype part to multi-sheet runs during an unmanned third shift," says Robinson.

The new TRUMPF TCF 1 CO2 laser is the result of TRUMPF's continual investment in research and development. The TCF 1 combines the radio-frequency technology of TRUMPF's TLF CO2 laser series, which has been proven repeatedly in tough, everyday industrial environments, with new diffusion-cooling technology. This innovative resonator concept allows for an extremely rigid and compact design with very high beam quality.

"High beam quality leads to fast processing speed in a wide variety of materials," explains Robinson. "Diffusion cooling eliminates the need to circulate the gas and results in low gas consumption. As a result, the laser gas supply, which is stored in a small, internal gas bottle, will last for a minimum of one year before replacement is necessary."

The TC L 2510 XL FMC also comes standard with TRUMPF's
advanced laser cutting features, including Autolas plus programmable focus control, APC advanced process control, SprintLas pierce-on-the-fly, and Nitrojet high pressure cutting.
