Flat Cables handle 50 million flex cycles.

Press Release Summary:

LEONI-HPF High Performance Flex flat cables feature low-density jacketing and fluoropolymer insulation, enabling them to be used in densely packed, confined spaces. Customized hybrid designs allow for integration of wide range of components. Individual conductors and cable components can be mixed and matched. All materials used have very little outgassing, ageing, and wear, making cable suitable for clean rooms and high vacuum environments.

New Leoni-HPF Series - Ready for 50 Million Flex Cycles

Tailor-made flat cables for high performance flexing

Troy, MI, February 2003 - Designed for tens of millions of flex cycles over a small bend radius, LEONI TMC has launched its series of LEONI-HPF (High Performance Flex) flat cables. Putting the technology of low density jacketing to work, the new LEONI-HPF cables can be specified for 50 million flex cycles, or even more.

Insulations from fluoropolymers help to keep dimensions and weight of the cables on an ultimate diet, so LEONI's tailor-made flat cables require less space - especially when densely packed cabling is required for high-flex performance in confined spaces. The low profile of the flat cables provides for a smaller bend radius compared to conventional round cables. Low friction and self-lubricating tapes result in improved flexibility while reducing the bending forces of the LEONI-HPF cables - minimizing the power needed for quick positioning of moving parts.

The new LEONI-HPF line comes with a host of advantages. The individual conductors and cable components can be mixed and matched. Customized hybrid designs allow for the integration of the widest range of components - from single discrete wires, shielded twisted pairs and diameter-reduced coaxials to fiber optic components for highest signal performance, air hoses for pneumatics and power pods to get the highest flex life even out of the largest AWG conductors. Since all elements in a flat cable are of identical length, mechanical tensile stress is distributed evenly over all conductors - resulting in a longer service life and, ultimately, lower installed cost.

An added feature of the LEONI-HPF series is the possible use in clean room and high vacuum environments. All materials employed have very little outgassing, ageing and wear. Release of abraded particles is minimized - extreme cleanliness is maintained.

Typical applications for LEONI-HPF cables include: SMT pick and place, material handling, robotic systems, automated wafer fabs, linear drives, medical diagnostics, and automated pharmaceuticals.

Tailor-made LEONI-HPF flat cables are available for minimum orders starting at 300 ft. - with design to delivery as a quick as four to six weeks. LEONI staff is prepared to deliver any pre-sales service necessary and will be in a position to offer affordable prototype quantity of any new cable design.

Founded in 1917, LEONI is a key player on the international market in the production of cables, wire and wiring harnesses. About 40 percent of LEONI's total revenue of approx. US$ 1.1 billion is cable-related with a growing portion of tailor-made designs.
