SST Expands Dual-Bank ComboMemory Flash Family for Mobile and Wireless Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 30 -- SST (Silicon Storage Technology, Inc., (NASDAQ:SSTI)), a leader in flash memory technology, today announced an addition to its 34 Series ComboMemory family to include a series of high-density, dual-bank devices targeting mainstream mobile and wireless applications. The SST34HF32xx ComboMemory products include 32 Mbits of concurrent SuperFlash-based flash memory, along with 4 Mbits, 8 Mbits or 16 Mbits of PSRAM all in a single form factor. The SST34HF32xx devices provide an ideal solution for high-volume applications including mobile communications, wireless modems, PDAs and other wireless applications. In addition, the ComboMemory devices feature an industry-standard pin out, thereby providing an easy migration path for manufacturers of basic mobile phones.

While the mobile phone market is becoming increasingly fragmented, the voice only segment is forecasted to be 30 percent of the worldwide market in 2006 with an estimated value of $7 billion, according to data from Web-Feet Research. In emerging markets, such as China and India, voice only phones represent a majority of the market. SST's new ComboMemory products integrate the optimum blend of flash memory and PSRAM for feature-constrained mobile devices, without sacrificing performance, quality or reliability.

"Through our longstanding relationships with world-class foundries, we can ship our new high-density 34 Series concurrent SuperFlash-based ComboMemory products in high volume to meet customer demand," said Paul Lui, vice president of Special Products Group at SST. "We believe our new SST34HF32xx ComboMemory devices uniquely position SST to support a broad spectrum of the mobile phone market. The concurrent SuperFlash-based ComboMemory products include typical erase performance significantly faster than competing devices, as well as savings in power consumption and increased reliability."

To maximize system throughput, the new SST34HF32xx devices feature a concurrent dual-bank design, whereby the memory is partitioned into two flash banks and data can be written or read in one bank while other data is being erased or programmed in the other bank. To further improve efficiency, the devices support erase-suspend and erase-resume capabilities, which allow an erase operation to be stopped and then continued from the same point. The devices also feature boot block write protection, security ID and hardware reset, as well as all the reliability and performance benefits of the latest self-aligned SuperFlash technology.
