Kidde Fire Systems Introduces First Primary Aqueous Fire Suppression System for Mobile Machinery at MINExpo 2008

- The new system is designed to detect, suppress and secure vehicle and machinery fires in extreme environments -

Ashland, MA- Kidde Fire Systems, a UTC Fire & Security Company (NYSE:UTX) and leading manufacturer of fire suppression systems for the mining industry, debuted its newest fire suppression system, Kidde Sentinel(TM), at MINExpo 2008. A fully integrated control, detection and suppression system, Kidde Sentinel will be the first FM-approved aqueous suppression system for mobile machinery and vehicles.

The Kidde Sentinel system provides maximum fire suppression flexibility.

The system can be designed to use the new environmentally non-reportable wet agent AquaGreenXT(TM), or the versatile dry chemical agent, depending on the application. Further, the system can be configured with combinations of wet agent and dry agent for primary and secondary protection.

Operating in a wide range of temperatures, the Kidde Sentinel protects vehicles and machinery working in extreme conditions, such as arctic mining or slag hauling. Kidde Sentinel is available in two configurations: Kidde Sentinel NET, a networked control system or the Kidde Sentinel SA-1 Control Panel, both customizable for specific applications.

"Both systems provide continuous monitoring for up to two hours after the vehicle is shut down, but before complete cooling, when heat can build up and ignite fuels around the engine," says Kate Houghton, director of marketing, Kidde Fire Systems.

"Kidde Sentinel is distributed and serviced by Wolfpack, a global network of vehicle professionals who understand fire protection for mining vehicles and machinery," adds Houghton. "They are fully trained, certified and provide round-the-clock service to meet the needs of the mining industry."

Additional key features of the Kidde Sentinel System include:
