Florida Firm Fights Fire with FireIce(TM)

Breakthrough Product Battles Statewide Blazes

JUPITER, Fla., May 28 -- While scores of fires are scorching Florida, a new company named GelTech Solutions is using its new product called FireIce to help firefighters snuff blazes in Palm Bay and other hot spots.

A team of volunteers led by FireIce inventor Peter Cordani is demonstrating FireIce's efficiency by driving a rented, 2,000-gallon fire truck from GelTech's Jupiter, Florida headquarters to the scenes of several infernos. While racing to Brevard County in mid-May, for instance, the FireIce team challenged several unattended blazes along Interstate 95. Using FireIce, they doused the flames and spared motorists from enduring a second closure of I-95.

FireIce also offers a low-cost method to protect residences from advancing flames. In fact, beyond halting brush fires, the FireIce team is credited with saving five to 10 houses that potentially could have fallen to re-lit flames.

"You can use the gel to coat your home if it's in the line of fire," reports Craig Lucie of WESH-TV in Orlando. "And once the flames pass, there's nothing left behind." FireIce can be removed easily with a hose and plain water. NBC News' Kerry Sanders describes FireIce as something "I've never seen before. It's kind of an interesting solution."

GelTech's team employs a revolutionary fire-suppression product -- a fine powder that simply mixes with water. This yields an environmentally friendly gel that quickly blocks oxygen to fires, asphyxiates them, and prevents them from reigniting. FireIce works in pumpers, tankers, air-drop planes and helicopters, extinguishers, and hand-held sprayers.

FireIce successfully has been tested under UL-711. It is non-toxic, biodegradable, and neither clogs nor corrodes firefighting equipment. It also reduces the amount of scarce water needed to stop fires, and thus will conserve millions of gallons that otherwise would spew from fire hoses. FireIce is available for a fraction of the cost of existing fire-suppression products, many of which unfortunately contain harsh chemicals that kill trees and foliage.

"Every fire department that has seen this product has been blown away," Peter Cordani said. One firefighter who saw FireIce defeat a Florida blaze stated: "I have been going to sleep for five years dreaming about a product like FireIce."

GelTech welcomes print and electronic journalists who wish to witness a FireIce demonstration, either at GelTech headquarters or on the front lines as fires rage.
