Pyrotenax® Offers 'PyroCIC' to meet new NEC and NFPA Codes

Two-hour fire alarm cable designed to meet survivability requirements Trenton, Ontario, April 1, 2003 - Tyco Thermal Controls, the premier manufacturer of Pyrotenax brand mineral insulated (MI) cable for a broad range of commercial and industrial markets and applications, recently introduced "PyroCIC". This new fire alarm cable, when installed in ¾ inch or larger E.M.T. with steel screw couplings, is 2-hour fire rated, and is designed to meet the survivability requirements of Fire Alarm Cable as outlined in the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70, Article 760) and the National Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72). "We developed "PyroCIC" to help installers save time and money complying with the new code requirements," said Barry F. O'Connell, commercial marketing manager for Tyco Thermal Controls, Pyrotenax brand. "Based on the 2002 NFPA 72, a stairwell of a fully sprinklered building is no longer a permitted means of meeting the two-hour protection requirement. Continued use of stairwells can lead to installers having to remove non-compliant installed cable. PyroCIC is an inexpensive alternative that meets the two-hour requirement." The PyroCIC shielded twisted pair cable is designated Type FPL, NPLF and CSA Type FAS. It is an "Electrical Circuit Protective System", listed for 2- hours. The cable has a low smoke, zero halogen jacket that is flexible and exceptionally easy to install. The inexpensive cable has two twists per foot, is available nationally, and comes in 300 and 1000-foot drums.
