Microtek® ArtixScan M1 Now Shipping

- Microtek also introduces the new ArtixScan M1 Pro

CARSON, Calif., Dec. 3 -- Microtek, a world-leading manufacturer of digital imaging products, announced today that it is shipping the ArtixScan(R) M1, a combined flatbed and film scanner, to distribution and reseller accounts. Microtek also announced today the ArtixScan M1 Pro scanner, a new product with additional features to provide greater productivity when scanning film. Both scanners feature Microtek's exclusive Emulsion Direct Imaging Technology (E.D.I.T.(TM)), a glassless scanning technology for scanning film that is similar to the design of dedicated film scanners.

"The Microtek engineers pushed the ArtixScan M1 forward to a higher performance level with new improvements to the electronic design, optical design, and mechanical design of the scanner," said Parker Plaisted, Manager of Product Marketing for Microtek. "And with the added features in the ArtixScan M1 Pro, Microtek addressed the need for higher productivity in film scanning."

Microtek ArtixScan M1

Featuring 4800 dpi optical resolution, 16-bits per channel, 4.4 maximum optical density, multi-sampling noise reduction, and auto-focus technology, the Microtek ArtixScan M1 has the high-performance specifications to surpass the film scanning capability of dedicated film scanners while maintaining outstanding reflective scanning capability. Excelling at both film and reflective scanning, the Microtek ArtixScan M1 offers greater versatility and value to photographers, photo enthusiasts, artists, and graphic designers.

Auto-Focus Technology

Recognizing the importance of achieving the optimum focus for scanning at high resolutions, Microtek designed a totally new auto-focus feature for the ArtixScan M1 and ArtixScan M1 Pro. At the start of the auto-focus process, mechanical adjustments are made to the optical system which result in a series of scans at different focal positions. The scans are automatically analyzed to determine the sharpest focus, and then the final scan is made at that focal position. This auto-focus feature is more precise and much faster than any manual focusing option for a flatbed scanner. The new auto-focus technology is another reason why the Microtek ArtixScan M1 and Microtek ArtixScan M1 Pro excel at film scanning.

Software, Color Management, and HDR Image Capture

Continuing a strong partnership with LaserSoft Imaging(R), the Microtek ArtixScan M1 includes the popular SilverFast(R) SE Plus software which provides an intuitive user interface and professional controls over the scanning parameters. The Microtek ArtixScan M1 Pro includes the SilverFast Ai Studio software, the top-of-the-line, full featured scanning software from LaserSoft Imaging. Two of the notable features of the SilverFast Ai Studio software are the AutoIT8 Calibration and Multi-Exposure. The SilverFast AutoIT8 Calibration uses the included, industry standard IT8 targets from LaserSoft Imaging which have a barcode imprinted on each target. The SilverFast software reads and uses the information in the barcode to automatically select and match the correct reference file to the scanned data. The SilverFast Multi-Exposure feature uses two exposure levels, in separate scans, to implement High-Dynamic-Range (HDR) image capture that extends the dynamic range of the scanner to capture the full tonal range in film images.

Microtek ArtixScan M1 Pro

The Microtek ArtixScan M1 Pro shares the same scanner with the Microtek ArtixScan M1, but includes additional features to provide greater productivity when scanning film. The full featured SilverFast Ai Studio software offers greater productivity through several features that are designed to meet the wide range of needs from professional photographers, graphic designers and artists who want extensive control over the scanning process and need a very efficient workflow. The Microtek ArtixScan M1 Pro also offers greater productivity with two sets of Microtek SnapTrans(TM) film holders which enable the user to select and load another set of film in the second film holder while the scanner is batch-scanning the first set of film.
