Recycling Light Technology (RLT(TM)) increases brightness at low-cost
VALENCIA, Calif. -- Wavien, Inc. has introduced a proprietary Recycling Light Technology (RLT), LED based illumination platform suitable for architectural and signage applications at the Light Fair in Philadelphia from April 22 to April 25, 2013. The architectural illumination system is being promoted by Ushio America at Booth # 2901, and the signage illumination system will be demonstrated by appointment only. RLT technology significantly increases, at a low cost, the brightness available to large core, single fibers made by 3M and very flexible, small diameter fiber bundles made by Schott. Both of these fiber optics are designed for side-emitting applications suitable for replacing neon tubes without glass blowing and breakages, with the long, 50,000-hour, lifetime of LEDs. Wavien is actively looking to license this enabling technology for architectural and signage illumination applications.
Wavien's RTL technology has produced brightness improvements of up to 2.5 times using white LEDs by Cree, and is also suitable for use with multi-colored LED packages, e.g. a 4-chip package with red, green, blue, and white LEDs. Using such colored LED package and simple drive electronics with digital control, multiple colors and sequences can be programmed to achieve the desired lighting effects.

The system recycles high angle light generated by LEDs, which would otherwise be wasted in conventional illumination systems, and converts it into useable output as a brighter beam.
