Precision Technology Group Demonstrates Superiority in Fiber Laser Marking on Titanium Parts

LAKE MARY, FL -- January 4, 2005 -- Precision Technology Group (PTG) recently demonstrated extraordinary results in the laser process for marking on titanium parts used in the manufacture of medical instruments.

Titanium is used by various industries in the production of tools, automotive and aerospace parts, computers and electronics, and medical and surgical instruments. It is strong, lightweight, and durable material that is resistant to both corrosion and heat. Titanium is readily marked with our LPQ Fiber Laser series, allowing for high quality generation of alphanumeric characters, machine readable codes, and other surface or engraved marks. Marking speeds vary depending on the mark requirements. The marks are created as the laser locally anneals the very top surface of the metal. Titanium darkens and exhibits various color changes at different levels of laser-induced surface heating. The resulting contrast offers excellent readability.

The FiberTower(TM) Fiber Laser Marking System is a safe, low cost alternative to conventional Nd:YAG systems to successfully create high speed, high quality marks on any titanium product. Using our FiberScan graphical-based laser programming software, users can easily create marks such as graphics, logos, 2D matrices, barcodes, symbols and text in any production environment. The FiberTower(TM) features independent components: Q-Switched Fiber Laser (up to 200 watts available), Scan Head, PCI Control Board, Power Supply and Software configured for titanium part marking. Its ease of installation and laser programming allows for quick start-up and minimal changeover. Other advantages include the need for only a low-voltage power source (110VAC) and wall-plug efficiencies up to 20% (and higher) resulting in compact size, reduced utilities and trouble-free air-cooling. The FiberTower(TM) provides easy-to-integrate solutions for direct part marking (DPM) applications while eliminating the need for time consuming finishing processes.

ABOUT PRECISION TECHNOLOGY GROUP -- Precision Technology Group designs and manufactures industrial grade Fiber and CO2 lasers and laser cutting, marking and engraving systems for precision applications, including a special method for Laser Glass Scribing and Breaking without chips, particles and microfractures or the need to edge finish. PTG is located outside of Orlando, FL, the focus of the industrial laser business in the United States, including the industry sponsored laser program at the University of Central Florida, allowing access to vast resources of both highly trained personnel and some of the most sophisticated laser research resources in the world. In association with world class laser engineers and scientists, PTG can address any laser material processing application.
