Fast-Growing Air Berlin Chooses ARINC for Enhanced Connectivity and Type B Network Service

Annapolis, Maryland, USA, January 8, 2008-ARINC Incorporated today announced it has installed advanced AviNet Type B business networking service for Air Berlin, the second largest airline in Germany and one of the fastest growing in Europe. ARINC won the new 3-year service contract in competitive bidding, and is currently deploying AviNet MQ service for the customer.

With AviNet MQ, Air Berlin enjoys expanded capability for Type B messaging with its trading partners. The MQ technology offers efficient protocol translation and is a highly reliable way for Air Berlin to send and receive IATA Type B messages.

"ARINC is delighted to welcome one of Europe's most respected airlines as a new customer for our AviNet MQ networking service," stated Dave Poltorak, ARINC's Vice President and Managing Director, EMEA. "Air Berlin will realize new efficiencies and cost savings from our routing optimization, protocol handling, and cost-effective rates."

"We are rapidly expanding Air Berlin services and destinations today, and we carefully evaluated the proposals we received for this contract," stated Kai Gottschlich, Air Berlin CIO. ARINC's MQ technology will support our business growth efficiently, and their Type B service rates offered real value."

Air Berlin is Germany's second largest airline. The airline was founded in 1978 and has been enjoying steady growth ever since. The Air Berlin Group offers a worldwide network of low fare flights and operates a dense network of domestic flights between German cities. The attractive price-performance ratio appeals equally to those traveling on business and for leisure. In summer season Air Berlin offers 360 flights a week to Majorca alone. From Palma de Mallorca, Air Berlin passengers can also reach 17 destinations on the neighboring islands, the Spanish mainland, and in Portugal.
