Extreme Networks Solves Toughest Challenges of Mid-Sized Networks with New Services and Solutions

Company Addresses Convergence, Security and Wireless With Tailored Solutions Offering Insight and Control for Mid-Sized Enterprise Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 23 // -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq EXTR) is enabling customers to successfully implement advanced applications on their mid-sized networks. The Company today announced a series of valuable new services, including a fixed-price network security assessment and a convergence readiness assessment that can help customers plan, purchase and maintain their mission-critical networks. Combined with its switching products announced this year, Extreme Networks® offers a comprehensive solution for the mid market.

Extreme Networks solves tough mid-sized network challenges, such as voice and video applications, secure wireless mobility and bandwidth-intensive networking by using expertise and technologies originally developed for service providers and large enterprises. Advanced capabilities aimed at better voice clarity, reliable business continuity, high application resiliency, user mobility and protection from attack are available for networks ranging from 100 to 1,000 ports.

Mid-sized organizations are often challenged by limited staffs and budgets. Extreme Networks has responded to the staffing and budget challenges of these customers with solutions and services that incorporate right-scaled versions of its award-winning BlackDiamond® and Summit® series Ethernet switches, featuring the modular operating system ExtremeXOS(TM), along with a services portfolio that engages the network to deliver secure, highly available connectivity for voice, video and data.

"The mid-market community continues to present an excellent opportunity for Extreme Networks to demonstrate how our sophisticated network and service solutions perform even when under duress," said Scott Lucas, senior director of solutions marketing for Extreme Networks, Inc. "Our expertise in building secure, converged LANs as well as enterprise-grade wireless networks helps these customers successfully deploy advanced applications on time and within budget."

Extreme Networks' blueprint for mid-sized networks combines highly capable infrastructure components, value-added professional services, and a portfolio of partnerships with leading security and IP telephony vendors. At the foundation of the network, the ExtremeXOS operating system provides increased control with an open philosophy towards integration with leading security and voice applications.

New Security and Convergence Assessment Services:
o Mid-Size Networks Security Assessment: Extreme Networks offers a two-day network vulnerability assessment providing a high-level view of a customer's network security posture. Security professionals are engaged to sample sections of the live network and determine if the network displays major security issues or a faulty network design. This addresses the network infrastructure, wireless LAN infrastructure, attached data and/or voice servers, end point workstations and printers. The assessment works to discover vulnerabilities that may be considered business-critical. At conclusion, the organization will receive a report identifying and prioritizing some key areas of potential risk in their network-computing environment.
o Convergence Readiness Assessment: Extreme Networks now provides mid-size enterprises an assessment of network readiness for IP telephony applications. The convergence readiness assessment includes identification of potential areas of voice and data traffic congestion, and highlights areas that can use advanced traffic management and bandwidth prioritization features to ensure high-quality voice services.

"We were able to take advantage of Extreme Networks new security assessment, giving us a high-level, security-focused view of our network infrastructure, one that evaluates where data is moving and the hidden vulnerabilities that exist," said Thomas Henager, director of network services for John C. Lincoln Hospital in Arizona. "The assessment was an excellent first step, helping us to identify issues and further plan our security and network implementation. This will help our hospital ensure that our data and hospital staff and patients are better protected. Because Extreme Networks had the expertise to make it streamlined and painless, we truly benefit as an organization."

The mid-size network Two-day Security Assessment has a list price of US $6,000 and the Convergence Readiness Assessment has a beginning list price of US $9,500.
