Extreme Networks Delivers New Switching Solutions with Voice-Class Availability and IPV6

New Summit X450 switches and BlackDiamond 8800 modules feature Power over Ethernet, LLDP, security enhancements and the modular ExtremeXOS OS

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 25 - Continuing to enhance voice-class performance, security, manageability and network availability, Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXTR) today announced new Summit® X450 switches, the first fixed edge switches with PoE, LLDP/LLDP MED extensions and a modular network operating system to help increase availability and security for converged applications. Extreme Networks® is also announcing the availability of four new modules for the award-winning BlackDiamond® 8800 modular switch. These cost-effective converged network solutions support reliable and secure voice, video and data applications for enterprises.

Extreme Networks innovations allow the network switch to serve as the foundation for communications by delivering security, device management, PoE and intelligent routing features. The new Summit X450e and x450a switches, featuring 24 and 48 port versions with optional dual port 10 Gigabit uplinks, help to future-proof the network with advanced IPV6 routing, voice-class availability and security featuring hardware-based sFlow sampling and policy- based security functions.

Extreme Networks is enhancing the capabilities and flexibility of its award-winning BlackDiamond 8800 switch. With four new modules supporting Gigabit aggregation, PoE and policy-based encryption with the Sentriant(TM) CE150, the BlackDiamond 8800 switch can optimize and secure applications, such as secure Gigabit-to-the-desktop connectivity, high-speed server aggregation for servers, switches and clustered computing environments.

The Summit X450 and BlackDiamond 8800 switches share hardware and modular software for a consistent network. These new switching platforms all leverage the ExtremeXOS(TM) modular operating system and offer customers a better alternative to forklift upgrades.

"Architecting a network is no longer just about port density and bandwidth," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president of marketing and product management for Extreme Networks. "Now, intelligent features and software delivering secure convergence is essential to supporting today's applications. With our latest product additions, we offer advanced functionality, security, and PoE that organizations can implement cost effectively."

Benefits of a Modular Operating System from End to End

Promoting network availability, the ExtremeXOS modular OS provides multitasking and Protected Memory, allowing processes -- such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) -- to run in a protected memory space for increased system integrity. Process monitoring and automatic process restart, loadable software modules and hitless failover help increase network.
