Ault 120W External Power Supply Breaks Through 100W Barrier In Space Saving Package

MINNEAPOLIS - Oct. 30, 2001 - To provide OEMs high-wattage power in a compact, heat-reducing design, Ault Incorporated (Nasdaq: AULT) introduces its PW122, a 120-watt, universal switch-mode external power supply. Ault engineers designed the PW122 to overcome excessive heat commonly found in high-power external products while meeting OEM needs for space savings.

The primary limiting factor for previous power supplies exceeding 100 watts was excessive heat generated from their older, less-efficient technology and components. Most products in this power range use an open, vented case, often including internal fans, which increase the overall size of the unit. The Ault PW122 is totally enclosed in an impact-resistant polycarbonate case that features a finned design with convection cooling to eliminate fans. This design facilitates heat transfer through the casing, reduces product size, and increases power efficiency.

"OEMs are looking for power supplies that meet both performance and size requirements," said Greg Harris, Ault's vice president of business development. "The 120-watt PW122 is our first product family to deliver more than 100 watts, and it delivers that power in the industry's most compact size. This allows designers to reduce product size or use the space traditionally occupied by internal power sources to add product functionality."

OEMs using the PW122 can expect power efficiencies as high as 88 percent. The unit features regulated output with low ripples for greater efficiency and accepts input of 100VAC to 250VAC. Ault engineers developed and tested the unit to comply with UL/C-Ulusl 950, TUV EN60950 MITI, EN61000-3-2, EN61000-3-3, Australian approvals, CE ratings, and EMI/RFI regulations. The unit measures 9.0 x 2.9 x 2.0 inches (229L x 74W x 51 H mm).
