Evergrid Showcases Live Migration of Applications

Company Previews Beta Version of New Enterprise Global Management Software At LinuxWorld/Next Generation Data Center 2007

FREMONT, Calif., July 31 /-- Evergrid, Inc., a provider of global resource management software for next generation data centers, today announced the beta version of its upcoming Data Center Resource Manager (DCRM) product. The software will feature server power management coupled with load balancing and live migration of multi-tier online applications from one server to another, without interruptions to in-flight transactions and without breaking client or file connections. This level of functionality has not been commercially available until now.

DCRM will be a new offering from Evergrid and will target enterprise online workloads by offering application availability, load and resource management in order to guarantee service level agreements (SLAs). DCRM's technology enables applications to run continuously and to migrate, while still running, to physically different servers, according to policy requirements. DCRM will follow on the heels of the company's recently announced Evergrid Cluster Availability Management Suite (CAMS), which provides stateful preemption and fault tolerance for long-running, multi-server batch jobs in high performance technical computing (HPTC) environments.

"DCRM will be the first step in our evolution toward a fully integrated stack, with the complete range of functionality needed in the utility enterprise data center. This release will provide migration of 'running' OLTP (online transaction processing) applications, allowing for more efficient and reliable utilization of computing resources," said B.J. Arun, president and founder, Evergrid. "Although we are initially targeting database applications, we will eventually provide the same type of mobility for multi-tier applications as well, maximizing resource utilization while maintaining service level agreements for the business user."

Evergrid software provides an abstraction layer that loads between the operating system (OS) and the application. Without modifying either the application or the OS, Evergrid regularly captures the collective state of the application across the entire infrastructure while the application continues processing. By recording the state of an application and all of the OS and system state, Evergrid enables application recovery, mobility and efficient allocation of computing resources in a shared computing environment.

Evergrid will showcase its beta Data Center Resource Manager software along with its Cluster Availability Management Suite in booth #425, at LinuxWorld/Next Generation Data Center Conferences, August 6-9, 2007, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Demonstration of the Evergrid Data Center Resource Manager beta will feature live migration of a running Oracle 10g database instance. The Evergrid DCRM demo will also feature power-on and provisioning of both physical and virtual servers and operating systems from boot through load management.
