Ethernet Gateway is designed for MPI.

Press Release Summary:

Used for programming, design, and visualization of Siemens automation devices, netLINK 50-MPI consists of one plug and 3 m long standard Ethernet cable that connects automation device with PC or notebook. It can communicate per parallel services with 32 (MPI) or 16 (TCP/IP) devices simultaneously. Transmission speeds reach 100 Mbps per MPI, and transmission rate of TCP network is automatically recognized by device. RJ45 socket offers flexible connection and problem-free exchange.

netLINK 50-MPI: Small and Compact: New Ethernet-Gateway for MPI

The Hilscher GmbH has further developed its well-known_netLink, the Ethernet Gateway for programming, design and visualization of Siemens automation devices. With the new_netLINK 50-MPI an Ethernet Gateway is now available for users and can communicate per parallel services with 32 (MPI) or 16 (TCP/IP) devices at the same time. In this, the software of the Gateway is compatible with previous versions. The electronics of the netLINK 50-MPI is based on the highly integrated netX 50 communication interface and is completely situated in the plug housing. Also the RFC 1006 protocol is implemented directly in the plug. The netLINK 50-MPI consists of just one very compact plug and a 3 m-long standard Ethernet cable that connects the automation device with a normal PC or notebook. The plug is so compact that it can be used on the plug side also with the latest Siemens device series with reduced height.

An RJ45 socket instead of a fixed Ethernet cable offers a flexible connection and permits problem-free exchange, e.g. with a longer or shorter Ethernet cable. With a second PG socket it is possible to connect a further device to the CPU of the automation device. The voltage supply is provided either via the MPI plug or an external 24 VDC. On the control side the netLINK 50-MPI allows a transmission speed of 100 MBit/s per MPI. The transmission rate of the TCP network is automatically recognised by the device. Thus, the netLINK 50-MPI corresponds to the current market requirements.

The netLINK 50-MPI is configured over the Ethernet. A diagnostic channel to the netLINK 50-MPI is built up over TCP/IP and works through a fixedly defined port parallel to the user data transmission. The configuration is stored by the netLINK 50-MPI in a FLASH and is therefore also available in case of a power failure. After plugging the netLINK 50-MPI into the MPI interface, the Ethernet Gateway starts with a default baud rate and searches the network for participants. As soon as it has found them, it builds up communication and can access the devices via TCP/IP.
