eSoft Enhances Web ThreatPak to Help Customers Stay Ahead of Malicious Threats

New Capabilities Include 23 New Web Filtering Categories and Real-Time Updates

BROOMFIELD, Colo., Feb. 5 -- eSoft, Inc., a leading vendor of integrated Internet security and content management solutions, announced today that it has released a significant update to its Web ThreatPak. The enhancements, which involve the addition of a host of new categories, have been made to the web filtering capabilities to specifically deal with the ever-increasing number of problematic and malware-laden websites.

The new release includes 23 new web filtering categories, bringing the total number of categories on the Web ThreatPak to 53. New categories include:

o Adware to block sites that serve annoying ads
o Spam to block URLs that are delivered within spam emails
o Violence to block sites with violent themes or images
o Shopping sites help maintain high productivity by keeping employees
focused on their jobs

Enhanced categories include:
o Job Search ensures employees are carrying out these searches on their
own time
o Webmail client to keep employees focused solely on business
communications
o Pornography
o Mature sites
o And more.

In addition, eSoft has made several other changes to further improve ease of use and real-time updating. With this release, integration with Active Directory has never been easier, making authenticated Internet access a simple point and click operation.

In terms of updating, eSoft's Web ThreatPak customers get new web site classifications in real-time so that newly discovered phishing and malicious sites are blocked for all eSoft customers as soon as they are discovered. eSoft's Distributed Intelligence Architecture(TM) (DIA) collects and categorizes 300,000 new URLs every day and feeds those updates in real-time to each eSoft customer utilizing the Web ThreatPak. This means that whenever a new virus is discovered on a site by any deployed eSoft product, eSoft's entire customer base is alerted and the website is automatically added to the blocked list.

Finally, reporting has been even further enhanced. eSoft's award-winning ThreatMonitor(TM) interface, which PC Magazine calls "probably the most informative single screen in the SMB UTM market," now includes comprehensive web activity reporting, including top sites visited, duration of visit by individual or company, top categories visited, top blocked sites, and much more, along with the graphs and charts that have always been so useful to customers for planning and reporting.

"The new Web ThreatPak features give us more control granularity, enabling us to have different website filters for different groups," said Leland Foster, Director of IT for Christian Church Homes of Northern California, an organization that utilizes more than 50 of eSoft's InstaGate UTMs. "It's easy to use and intuitive, and the integration of Active Directory is very beneficial. While the addition of new sites every day is a great asset and helps us keep users off malicious or inappropriate websites, we still have the capability to white list specific sites -- something eSoft lets us do."

"eSoft's web filtering has always had the ability to block malicious sites that host malware, but that capability has been greatly expanded with the much larger database of malicious websites and new categories for compromised sites and phishing sites," said Patrick Walsh, Director of Product Management and Marketing. "Together with the real-time update capabilities, this release adds a level of security to web surfing that can't be found in any other security appliance on the market."
