ESD ICs protect sensitive electronics of portable devices.

Press Release Summary:

Comprised of 1-, 2-, 4-, and 6-line array designs, LXES Series protects electronic equipment, such as mobile phones and portable PCs, from electrostatic discharge (ESD). Silicon-based products feature design optimized for minimal capacitance and signal loss on high-speed data and transmission lines. Suppression levels are less than 100 V output when input voltage is 15 kV, and repetition durability is 1,000 cycles at 8 kV contact voltage.

Murata Electronics Launches Electrostatic Discharge Protection Series

LXES Series Ideal for Mobile Phone and Personal PC Markets

Smyrna, GA, August 25, 2009 - Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components, today announced the availability of the LXES product series. These silicon-based devices are critical components in protecting electronic equipment, such as mobile phones and portable personal computers, from electrostatic discharges (ESD).

A high level of ESD protection is achieved through the LXES' series unique ultra-low capacitance design, which also minimizes signal loss on high-speed data and transmission lines. Additional features include high suppression levels (less than 100V output when input voltage is 15kV) and high repetition durability (1000 cycles at 8kV contact voltage). Current product series includes a two, four and six line array design along with a single line device. The next generation product will expand to a 10 element device that will also contain built in filtering.

ESD protection devices are needed in all electronic equipment to protect sensitive circuits from electrostatic discharge. With the increased demand for more features in mobile devices, the need to prevent damage from electrostatic discharge has become even more of a challenge as many solutions suffered from insufficient or degraded suppression characteristics after repeated electrostatic discharges. Murata solved these problems by enhancing the aforementioned characteristics and repetition durability through the original product design.

"At Murata, we are uniquely qualified to solve many of the challenges that design engineers face because of our expansive expertise in the development and production process and the myriad other facets that could potentially hinder ongoing advancements. The launch of the LXES product series further underscores that commitment," said Gerry Hubers, Market Segment Manager for Murata Electronics North America.

Sample pricing is available for approximately $0.20 to $0.60 each with a lead time of six to 10 weeks.
