Entrust Raises the Bar for SSL Certificate Services

Entrust Advantage SSL Certificate Offers Unlimited Reissue and Ease of Use For Customers

DALLAS, March 14 / -- When a person surfing the Internet sees that little yellow lock in the corner of their browser, it should mean that the company issuing that certificate hasn't given it to just anyone. Rather, it should mean that the site actually is registered to that company, that the possessing company is who they claim to be as identified in the certificate, and that the pipe between the visitor and the company's Web site is secure. Along with an appropriate verification step in the issuance process, SSL certificates need to be simple for a company to manage to ensure the certificate stays in effect to protect both the company and its customers. That is why Entrust, Inc. (NASDAQ:ENTU) has introduced its new Advantage SSL certificate which will give customers greater flexibility along with assurance of the Entrust verification process.

"There have been several high profile incidents where SSL certificates were given to companies when they should not have been," said Entrust Chief Technology Officer Chris Voice. "For us, the verification process is so important, and it really is the heart of making sure that yellow lock on a Web site really means the user's session is secure and that the site actually belongs to the company it's supposed to."

The new Advantage SSL certificate will add the benefit of unlimited reissue during the validity period of the certificate and enables up to 256 bit encryption, the strongest available to the general public. This reissue feature allows organizations to lower their total cost of ownership and provides them with the added flexibility of reusing their certificates an unlimited number of times during their service period. In addition, companies can identify two server names for the Advantage SSL certificate, giving them even greater flexibility. The new Advantage SSL certificate also carries the benefit of mutual authentication -- a standard feature in previous Entrust's Mutual SSL certificates. The Entrust Advantage SSL certificate suite will continue to provide the assurance that comes with Entrust's site verification process.

Another Entrust SSL certificate service offering is the Certificate Services Enhanced Edition. This is a managed service offering that helps companies manage multiple SSL certificates, save money and streamline the renewal process. In addition, this service includes Entrust's market leading SSL certificate support, web based user interface and renewal notices to help ensure companies avoid inadvertent certification expiration. In the near future, the Enhanced SSL certificate service will use the Entrust Advantage SSL certificate.

"We have used Entrust's Enhanced SSL Service for over five years and continue to add certificates to the service on a regular basis because of its ability to save us time and money," said Bell Canada Associate Director Steve Dyer. "Entrust provides excellent customer focused service and we look forward to continued use of Entrust's SSL Certificates."

Entrust was the first certificate authority (CA) in the world to earn the WebTrust for Certificate Authorities (CAs) Seal of Assurance from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). A WebTrust Seal symbolizes to potential relying parties that a qualified practitioner has evaluated the CA's business practices and controls to determine whether they are in conformity with the AICPA/CICA WebTrust for Certification Authorities' principles and criteria.

"With the new unlimited reissue feature and e-commerce site, we're making it even easier for people to turn to Entrust for their SSL certificates," said Entrust Senior Vice President, Marketing Kevin Simzer. "This is evidenced by an extremely high customer renewal rate -- another validation of our high valued SSL certificate offering."
