Enea Introduces New TCP/IP Stack for Digital Signal Processors

Enea Bundles New DSPNet Stack with OSEck DSP RTOS

San Jose, CA, December 7, 2006- Enea (Stockholm: ENEA.ST), the world leader in advanced device software, today announced DSPNet, a compact, high-performance TCP/IP stack for its OSEck DSP real-time operating system. The compact new stack, optimized for deeply embedded applications with tight size and cost constraints, occupies less than 40 kbytes of memory and can support IPv4, IPv6, and dual-mode IPv4/IPv6 traffic. DSPNet supports raw IP/UDP/TCP BSD Sockets and provides a zero-copy API based on BSD Sockets. Enea will also offer a broad range of optional security and networking applications for the new stack.

"As DSPs are used in more complex networked environments, TCP/IP is becoming an integral part of the total DSP solution, particularly when Gigabit Ethernet is used as the local interconnect for DSP farms," said Karl-Gustav Niska vice president of product management at Enea. "Offering a TCP/IP stack for OSEck is another important step in executing our strategy to deliver complete platform solutions that help our customers speed time to market and focus on more profitable service and application development."

OSEck (OSE Compact Kernel) is a DSP-optimized version of Enea's full-featured OSE RTOS. Occupying less than 8 kbytes of memory (in a minimal configuration), OSEck delivers fully-preemptive, event-driven real-time response with a context switching speed of 150 nsec and a worst-case interrupt latency of 300 nsec (assuming 850-MHz clock frequency). OSEck also features high-performance, message-based LINX interprocess communications (IPC) services that greatly simplify the design, deployment and management of complex wireless applications spanning multiple DSPs.

DSPNet will initially be available for OSEck running on Texas Instruments' C64x DSP family and Freescale's Starcore family. Pricing for DSPNet starts at $ 5,000.
