GSI Lumonics Introduces New End-Pumped Mini-DPSS Laser Series

RUGBY, ENGLAND & FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, October 2004 - GSI Lumonics Inc. (Nasdaq: GSLI and TSX: GSI) announces a new series of low-power, end-pumped, diode-pumped, solid state lasers to round out its line of DPSS laser sources.

The new Spectron SLD6000 series offers a range of output powers from 5 to 10W, utilizing conduction-cooled diode bars for optimal reliability and cost effectiveness. Designed to excel in the widest range of precision materials processing applications including marking, trimming, scribing, and micromachining on modern materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum, and many polymers, the affordable SLD6000 series offers a number of options focused on high repetition rates, shorter pulse lengths, and higher peak powers. These include: choice of Nd:YAG or Nd:YVO4 lasing media; water or air-cooled configurations; and direct or fiber-coupled options with field-replaceable diodes on the fiber-coupled units for reduced maintenance and increased uptime. The series features a rugged, sealed head design as well as a new compact size that is easily integrated into today's smaller marking systems.

The SLD6000 series offers control software with the highest levels of laser control, monitoring key parameters in the head and power supply unit, making all data accessible to the system builder. Each laser comes with a full set of DLLs and a detailed manual for quick and seamless integration.
