Emerson's Copeland Scroll(TM) K5 Refrigeration Compressor Wins Gold Award in the Achr News Dealer Design Awards

SIDNEY, Ohio - Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc., a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), was recognized for excellence in product design in the 9th annual Dealer Design Awards Program sponsored by The Air Conditioning Heating & Refrigeration News magazine. Emerson's Copeland Scroll(TM) K5 refrigeration compressor was the Gold Award Winner in the Refrigeration & Ice category. Launched in January 2012 at the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration (AHR) Expo, the Copeland Scroll K5 compressor has the potential to help a supermarket or grocery store reduce its refrigeration-related energy expenses by up to 10 percent.

"Considering the fact that a typical 50,000 sq. ft. supermarket incurs approximately $20,000 each month in refrigeration-related energy expenses, the annual cost savings per store achieved with the Copeland Scroll(TM) K5 refrigeration compressor can reach $20,000 - $24,000," said Mitch Knapke, market manager, food retail, Emerson Climate Technologies.

An independent panel of 29 contractors acted as judges, reviewing all of the contest's 81 entries. Winning entries in the Dealer Design Awards were featured in the July 9, 2012 issue of The ACHR News, which is distributed nationally to more than 33,000 HVACR contractors, wholesalers and other industry professionals.

"We are honored that experts in the refrigeration industry are as excited about the Copeland Scroll K5 compressor as we are," Knapke added.

The Copeland Scroll K5 refrigeration compressor incorporates two important features that deliver significant system efficiency advantages. The first is variable volume ratio technology, which optimizes low-condensing performance. The second is enhanced vapor injection capability for maximum capacity at low set points without having to add more or larger compressors.

News publisher Mike Murphy stated, "These awards give us a unique opportunity to recognize the outstanding research and development efforts that go into many of the products serving the HVACR industry and the awards issue gives our readers an opportunity to read about innovative installation and service solutions."
