Original Press Release:

New Multi-function Electrical Safety Compliance Analyzers Feature Expanded Test Capability and Patented User Interface

Lake Forest, Illinois, May 2004 - Announced today by Associated Research, Inc. is the new OMNIA 8100 Series of Electrical Safety Compliance Analyzers. These new testers expand on the test capabilities of the previous OMNIA series while maintaining the features and functionality that made the initial OMNIA series so popular. Models include 4-in-1, 5-in-1, and 6-in-1 Electrical Safety Compliance Analyzers that feature an enhanced graphic LCD. The base model, OMNIA 4, model 8104 contains the 4 most commonly required electrical safety tests including AC Hipot, DC Hipot, Ground Bond/Continuity and Insulation Resistance. The OMNIA 5, model 8105 adds Functional Run testing to the base model and OMNIA 6, model 8106 adds Functional Run and Line Leakage testing to the base model. The new OMNIA series features extended Ground Bond test current up-to 40 Amps. This provides test current that satisfies safety agency requirements for revisions made to both the CSA-C22.2 NO. 60950-1-03 and the UL 60950-1 standards for information technology equipment. The OMNIA 6, model 8106 features an extended Line Leakage test mode. It incorporates 7 different measuring device configurations to simulate the human body impedance models for a variety of specifications. Leakage measurements can be either, true RMS or PEAK as required by IEC 60990 for measuring touch currents. In addition, leakage limits may be programmed into the instrument for automated measurements for both normal and single fault conditions. The OMNIA, 8106 can perform Earth Leakage, Enclosure Leakage, and Applied Part Leakage as well as Touch Current measurements.

The enhanced graphic LCD found on OMNIA provides the operator with a patented user interface that is easy to use and allows for a complete view of test set up and results not available with other displays. This advanced menu system allows users to quickly and easily program their test data. In addition, the enhanced graphic LCD acts as a building block for many advanced technologies designed to simplify the testing requirements manufacturers face today. Part of this patented interface includes the prompt function. This feature will hold the test cycle while a user configured prompt message is displayed. This is very beneficial for applications where test leads need to be applied or removed or DUT switches need to be activated as part of the test cycle. In addition, with the enhanced graphic LCD technology, OMNIA also features the built-in CAL-ALERT® function and VERI-CHEK®, built-in test verification procedure. Also incorporated into OMNIA is the patented SmartGFI® safety circuit. SmartGFI is a safety feature that provides maximum operator protection by shutting down the high voltage when excessive leakage flows to earth ground. SmartGFI is unique because it is able to monitor the return configuration of the Device Under Test (DUT) and configure itself appropriately eliminating the operator manipulation of this important safety circuit.

Additional Features of the OMNIA series include 50 memories with 30 steps per memory, built-in real current measurement, and patented RAMP HI and CHARGE LO testing. OMNIA comes complete with RS-232 or GPIB automation interfaces and is also available with Autoware® control software as well as optional scanning matrixes.
