New Underground Residential Electrical Distribution Connector
Tyco Electronics' GelPort Connector for Secondary Electrical Utility Connection HARRISBURG, Pa - March 28, 2005 - Tyco Electronics has introduced GelPort connectors, a submersible secondary connector for underground residential distribution (URD). At the heart of the GelPort connector is PowerGel sealant gel which encapsulates the cable as it enters the gel-filled cable port and provides a moisture seal. GelPort connectors are the only insulated bus bar connector on the market that uses PowerGel sealant technology. Further, GelPort connectors incorporate PowerGel ports which provide a broad cable surface sealing area, and do not require trimming to accommodate the full range of cable sizes. In addition to utility companies and contractors, GelPort connectors may be used by street lighting contractors and at military bases. Other applications exist at industrial sites such as manufacturing and chemical processing plants. GelPort connectors are available in 3,4,5,6, and 8 port configurations, accept cable from 12 AWG up to 350 MCM and are rated for 525A/600V at 90 degrees C. A rugged co-polymer housing encases GelPort connectors and provides superior puncture, impact and UV resistance. High conductivity tin-plated 6061-T6 aluminum is used for the connector which provides corrosion protection. GelPort connectors also meet ASTM D543 for chemical resistance to sulfuric acid, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide and ethylene glycol. Lead times are typically stock to four weeks.
