San Diego, CA - Maxwell Technologies, Inc. introduces the 1Mb EEPROM-5962-38267- their first Memory device to be included on a Standard Microcircuit Drawing (SMD). Built exclusively on Maxwell Technologies' QML-qualified line, this product benefits from DSCC approved processes and procedures according to MIL-PRF-38535. In December of 2001, Maxwell and DSCC performed an assessment of the die supplier for the 5962-38267 device. The audit was a resounding success, resulting in DSCC's acknowledgement that the die used by Maxwell Technologies fulfills the process and quality requirements of MIL-PRF-38535. Furthermore, SMDs allow customers to purchase products from Maxwell without the need for cumbersome Source Control Drawings, thereby improving lead-time and reducing unnecessary paperwork.

Maxwell Technologies is the only supplier on the 5962-38267 SMD to offer this product in 120ns speed grade and in three package outlines. SMD components will be a continuous focus for Maxwell Technologies, as we look for other devices that are a strategic fit for this offering.

"This represents yet another move forward for Maxwell to offer space qualified products that also adhere to strict Military standards", said Larry Longden, Director of Marketing and Technology. "Maxwell recognized a void in the space market for 1Mb EEPROM SMD's that are packaged specifically to mitigate radiation exposure" continues Longden. In the coming months, Maxwell will also be pursuing a low voltage SMD to market a
3.3V version of the 1Mb EEPROM.

Maxwell has included two new package outlines to the SMD utilizing Maxwell Technologies' patented RAD-PAK® packaging technology which incorporates radiation shielding in the microcircuit package. This process eliminates the need for additional box shielding, while still providing the required radiation shielding for a lifetime in orbit or for the duration of the space mission.

Maxwell Technologies manufactures and markets high-reliability power and computing components and automated test instruments. The company's microelectronic products include power modules, integrated circuits and single board computers that combine
commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components and Maxwell's proprietary radiation shielding technology to provide optimal performance and reliability in aerospace, military and other applications. Maxwell's PowerCache ultracapacitors are high-density energy storage cells that deliver bursts of high power on demand in applications such as automotive electrical systems and powertrains, wireless communications and consumer and industrial electronic devices. The company's instrument products include automated accelerated reliability test systems (AARTS) for RF and photonic components.
