FeatureCAM Functionality Expands with the Release of FeatureWIRE
Salt Lake City, UT - Engineering Geometry Systems (EGS), manufacturer of FeatureCAM(R) software, is pleased to announce the release of FeatureWIRE, a wire EDM program with the same revolutionary feature-based and knowledge-based technologies signature of all FeatureCAM products. FeatureWIRE will be demonstrated at WESTEC 2002 in Los Angeles, California, March 18 to March 21 in EGS' Booth #2975 and at EASTEC 2002 in West
Springfield, Massachusetts, May 21 to May 23 in EGS' Booth #5650.
FeatureWIRE is programming for 2-axis, 2-axis taper, and full 4-axis wire EDM. The feature-based technology in FeatureWIRE includes designing parts using features such as dies and
punches. Based on the features selected, the knowledge-based technology automatically provides the operations needed for various cutting strategies and retrieves cutting conditions
from the incorporated database. FeatureWIRE then generates toolpaths, produces operation sheets, for documentation, provides a full-color graphical simulation, and creates NC code. If needed, the user has the option to edit any step of the process.
FeatureWIRE functionality includes support for skim cuts, no-core cutting, and the creation of gears and cams. For 2-axis parts, constant and variable taper are supported. For 4-axis parts, points from the upper and lower curves an be matched to specify synchronization points. A wide variety of post processors are also supported, including Charmilles, Agie, Sodick, Fanuc, and Mitsubishi.
In addition to FeatureWIRE, FeatureCAM products include FeatureMILL2.5D, FeatureMILL3D, FeatureTURN, FeatureTURN/MILL, FeatureRECOGNITION, Solid Modeling, Tombstone Machining, 5-Axis Positioning, and Catia Direct Import. .
