EDM Machines Drill Deep Holes with High Precision

SUDBURY, MA - High-precision, high-volume Beaumont Fast Hole Series 6-axis EDMs drill holes as small as .018" diameter in high-strength-alloy parts for aerospace engines, power-generating turbines, and other equipment. Available from Methods EDM with 40" and 60" X-axis travels, the Beaumont FH40 and FH60 are VMC-style machines with Siemens encoder-equipped motors and drives for precise simultaneous 5-axis positioning of large parts as easily as small ones. A 3000 RPM spindle, a 65 amp (peak) power supply, and a tool-change counter for easy electrode changes are all standard. Swiveling heads allow up to 120° travel on the A axis and 360° on the B axis. Both EDMs use 24" long electrodes and are capable of burning holes to unmatched depths with excellent repeatability.

Standard on both models, the powerful Siemens 840Di CNC runs the Windows XP operating system and comes equipped with a 15" LCD color monitor and a remote pendant for fast, easy setups. Proprietary Beaumont Data Pages store and display key machining parameters for a given part - on/off time, capacitance, and even multiple current settings for the same hole - all on a single page. Up to 100 pages can be created, stored in the control, and readily accessed. The control continuously monitors the burn process, and the operator can modify burn parameters to improve performance - even on a job in progress - and save the modifications for similar future jobs. A last burn timer provides a quick reference to verify settings from burn to burn.

FH Series machines can achieve hole diameter tolerances as tight as ± 0.0005" and recast layers as low as 0.0005". Their simple mill-style design facilitates G- and M-code programming as well as machine operation. Electrodes are flushed with de-ionized water at an adjustable pressure to remove debris and control heat. An EBBCO system provides reliable filtration of the dielectric.

FH Series options include a Unigraphics post processor, lockout, a robotic tool changer, a workpiece-positioning probe, a reverse-polarity electrode dresser, breakthrough detection, larger Troyke tables, custom macros, fully engineered turnkey packages, and customized training.

Founded as a machine tool repair service in 1992, Beaumont Machine today designs and manufactures EDM machines with X-axis travels to 150" at its new facility in Milford, Ohio. Methods EDM, a division of Methods Machine Tools, Inc., based in Sudbury, Massachusetts, is also the exclusive North American source for sales, services, and training support for Fanuc Wire EDM machines, exeron Die Sinker EDM machines, and Methods HoleMaster High-Speed Hole Driller EDMs.
