Eclipsys Delivers On-Time and On-Budget Activation of Sunrise Ambulatory Care at St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx, NY

BOCA RATON, Fla., April 26 -- Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx, NY, has successfully activated Eclipsys Sunrise Ambulatory Care in the pediatric divisions at all three of its ambulatory care centers where it has achieved 100-percent physician adoption of the solution. Following an on-time, on-budget activation of Eclipsys' first ever stand-alone activation of Sunrise Ambulatory Care, St. Barnabas Hospital's clinicians are using the solution to electronically document care and view patient information in an electronic medical record (EMR).

"The activation went more smoothly than I could have ever imagined," said Harry Shuman, MD, MPH, senior vice president at St. Barnabas Hospital. "With 100-percent of our physicians using Sunrise Ambulatory Care where it is activated, we will soon be able to begin documenting how the solution's automated clinical documentation and EMR is helping us improve patient-care, cost, and satisfaction outcomes."

St. Barnabas Hospital's patient population tends not to develop a relationship with a single healthcare provider, making it imperative that all of their health records are available wherever they present, including a full medical history. With Sunrise Ambulatory Care now live, St. Barnabas Hospital's clinicians have instant access -- from their home, office, clinics and other locations across the healthcare organization -- to a concise overview of a patient's previous visits. This helps clinicians better manage the treatment of the more than 300,000 ambulatory patients each year who visit St. Barnabas Hospital and its associated facilities.

"The Eclipsys implementation team worked hard to make sure the solution met the unique needs of our ambulatory care environment, while also making sure we met our deadlines and came in on budget," said Richard Young, assistant vice president, Information systems, St. Barnabas Hospital. "With Sunrise Ambulatory Care, we have begun to realize our goal of Ambulatory patient information being accessible from various locations throughout the St. Barnabas enterprise."

Smooth, Efficient Documentation

Sunrise Ambulatory Care's documentation templates enable St. Barnabas Hospital's physicians to quickly and fully document each patient encounter. Automated E&M coding recommends an evaluation and management code based on clinical documentation, leading to prompt and accurate reimbursement. Clinicians can also adjust codes based on the patient's diagnosis or medical complexity, and the information is then fed into the Superbill.

Added Dr. Shuman, "Many of our patients are members of managed Medicaid programs and, for these patients, the state mandates certain age, sex and diagnosis specific follow-up visits and testing. The next functionality we plan to activate is programmed alerts in Sunrise Ambulatory Care to identify the ongoing needs of these patients, no matter where they present. This capability was a key factor in our decision to choose Eclipsys' solution over the competition."

"Eclipsys was able to leverage our experience implementing our clinical information systems in the most complex high-acuity care environments to implement a solution on-time and on-budget that addressed the unique requirements of St. Barnabas Hospital's ambulatory care environment," said Jay Deady, Eclipsys executive vice president, Client Solutions. "What's most encouraging is that 100-percent of the hospital's affiliated physicians are already actively using the system as part of their daily care delivery process. As the leader in achieving high-rates of physician adoption for our solutions in the inpatient setting, this is an important step towards achieving consistent success in the outpatient environment."

Continued Deady, "The flexibility of our XA architecture, based on .NET technology, helps make our clinical information solutions attractive to a variety of healthcare organizations. We can easily deploy our solutions as part of the Sunrise Clinical Manager integrated platform or as stand-alone systems, depending on our clients' needs."

To help fund this project, St. Barnabas Hospital received a $1.7 million HEAL NY grant. These are state funds appropriated for healthcare technology investment in New York healthcare.

About Sunrise Ambulatory Care
