Eaton Supports Wind Energy Producers with Factory Repair Service for Vickers Pitch Control Valves

September 29, 2008

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that its Searcy, Ark., plant has inaugurated an industry exclusive factory repair service for the Vickers® proportional valves widely used to control blade pitch in power-generating wind turbines.

The service, covering Vickers KB proportional valves with on-board electronics, offers standard three to five day turnaround and an opportunity to extend the factory warranty under certain circumstances. A next-day service is also available to accommodate emergency situations.

"The wind turbine aftermarket has long needed original factory service as an alternative to the so-called gray market service suppliers," said William F. Wesmann, Eaton's global product manager of the Industrial Controls Division. "Eaton is the first major OEM to provide quick turnaround factory-level repair services to restore 'as new' performance and reliability. With more than 25,000 Eaton KB proportional valves currently installed on hydraulic pitch controlled wind turbines, we are confident this program offering genuine parts installed by factory technicians will be a major asset to the industry."

The program, which covers the entire range of proportional valves used in a broad range of applications, is available through Eaton distributors nationwide, and offers three levels of service depending on the size and type of valve.

o Level 1 - Test, flush, validate and calibrate
o Level 2 - Tear down, clean, inspect, assemble, test and calibrate.
o Level 3 - Level 2 price plus installing new parts
