Folderserver Delivers Large Files and Folders Directly to Desktops Without Mailserver Overload

New solution enhances existing email systems to provide secure and controlled transport for any size of file or folder across the enterprise without slowing the network

6 November 2006: With increasingly large volumes of data and multimedia content being sent internally via email, Foldermail has launched a new solution that delivers large files and folders directly to people's desktops as easily as sending an email but without overloading mailservers or clogging up networks. Folderserver works as an extension to existing email to provide highly reliable, secure and easily managed delivery of literally any size of file or complete folder. Folderserver can be configured as a private mail system for internal delivery only or as a collaboration tool for secure transfer of data both internally and between suppliers and customers, without the difficulties of setting up a VPN.

When it comes to sending small files, no other delivery method has proved as fast, simple and reliable as email. But email was not designed to cope with the increasing file sizes being distributed in volume around the enterprise. Other data delivery methods such as FTP, web transfer or removable storage devices are simply not as easy or convenient as email.

Sending data via Folderserver is as simple as adding an attachment and sending an email. The small Folderserver client even integrates with Outlook and it can be configured to automatically remove email attachments above a preset size and send them more efficiently via Folderserver. Folderserver transfers data in the background to prevent it hindering other use of the network and it can be scheduled to avoid peak traffic times. Deliveries can be prioritised and detailed real time progress and time-stamped delivery reports are provided for each transaction.

Folderserver is installed on a corporate server and uses the enterprise's connectivity to route the data. It can be installed behind the DMZ to create a completely private and secure internal system that is available only to authorized personnel. Alternatively, it can be installed within the DMZ to provide secure communications with approved suppliers and customers as well.

Folderserver is highly secure and data is encrypted end to end. Two part authentication is used and only authorized and authenticated users are able to send and receive so there is no chance of picking up spam, viruses and other malware. For additional security, data and control information can be separated on different servers and the data can also be split across multiple servers so no single server contains all the information needed to recreate the delivery. It comes with a range of administrator lock down controls to ensure Folderserver can be configured to meet corporate security policies and for auditing purposes each transaction is tracked and traced from start to finish.

Folderserver is highly reliable and efficient. If a transfer is interrupted for any reason it will simply pick up from where it left off as soon as it is able to. This makes it ideal for communicating with remote staff, distributors and agents or anyone who may have to use a poor or intermittent connection.

"There can't be many organisations that don't encounter problems of transferring large volumes of data quickly, easily and cost effectively," says Jane Aldridge, Marketing Director at Foldermail. "Email simply hasn't kept pace with growing file sizes and one of the biggest causes of slow corporate networks is the volume of data transferred internally by email. Other solutions such as FTP, web transfer or putting the data on CDs/DVDs or USB keys have significant disadvantages and are certainly not as convenient as sending email. With Folderserver we provide a rich, featured extension to the existing email system that relieves the pressure on the network and mailserver."
