Panasonic Vision Systems Displays High Performance DVD Recorder at RSNA 2004

DVD-RAM & DVD-R Media Provide Universal Playback

Chicago, IL - (Nov. 28, 2004) Panasonic Vision Systems is displaying a unique DVD recording solution here at RSNA 2004. Panasonic's new LQ-MD800 Video Recorder provides the capability to record/playback DVD-RAM and DVD-R media in the MPEG-2 format making it ideally suited for a wide range of medical-grade and other professional applications.

"The LQ-MD800 represents a significant breakthrough in recording technology since it provides a high- performance digital recording solution that accepts both DVD-RAM media that are in protective cartridges, as well as common DVD-R discs," said Jim Roselius, Sales Manager, Panasonic Vision Systems. "As a result, users in volatile environments such as medical examination and operating rooms can employ the protection of the DVD-RAM media to protect against damage from gels, powders or fluids that can easily contaminate unprotected DVD media. For more universal applications such as presentation playback, DVD-R media can be used to provide a cost-efficient record/playback solution with high performance results."

The Panasonic LQ-MD800 Video Recorder employs the proven MPEG-2 recording format and can be set for either NTSC or PAL recording. Regional coding is not placed on recorded discs allowing the ability for medical data to be played worldwide.

By employing DVD-RAM cartridge encased media, the Panasonic LQ-MD800 Video Recorder offers "data secure" recording. The unit meets UL2601-1 and IEC601 electrical standards making it ideal for use in medical environments. The DVD-RAM media incorporates Defect Management System (DMS) making data recovery (possible if the disc is partially damaged, unlike consumer based DVD+R and DVD+RW formats. For added versatility, DVD-RAM discs may be removed from their cases if necessary for playback in conventional DVD units.

The LQ-MD800 Video Recorder also accepts common DVD-R discs for use in less volatile environments. The economical DVD-R media is universally accepted for playback in virtually any DVD device.

Designed as a plug- and- play replacement for VCRs in an array of professional recording applications such as medical sonogram recording, the Panasonic LQ-MD800 Video Recorder offers RS232C control emulation for easy replacement of medical VCRs. The LQ-MD800 Video Recorder also features a DV input to accommodate video footage from any of today's professional DV based camcorders. In addition, RS232C and USB control allows remote operation of recording and playback functions, along with data encrypted encoding capabilities for more digital intensive applications such as patient identification or presentation titles.
