Dual-Spring Thermal Protectors suit ac and dc applications.

Press Release Summary:

Along with overheat protection and automatic reset features, JP7, EP2, and BP employ dual spring mechanism design that provides shock and vibration resistance for stable contact performance. Model JP7 provides overheat protection for ac equipment in harsh industrial conditions, while EP2 does the same for low-voltage dc equipment. Measuring 15.0 x 5.0 x 2.8 mm, BP automatically shuts-off voltage if batteries in rechargeable battery packs should overheat.

Selco Introduces New Family of Dual Spring Thermal Protectors for AC and DC Applications Ranging from Computers to Automotive

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Nov. 14, 2005 - Selco Products has introduced a new family of Thermal Protectors featuring three distinct models, each designed for specific AC or DC market applications. All three models - the JP7, the EP2 and the BP - offer high reliability overheat protection, automatic reset, dual spring mechanism design, and sharp "snap-action" sound upon activation.

Key benefits of the series dual mechanism function include strong shock and vibration resistance to provide extremely stable contact performance. The dual spring creates more tension on the contact making it less susceptible to vibration or movement, which can cause automatic shut-off. This valuable safety feature is particularly important for sensitive electronic equipment applications where unanticipated shut-off could damage equipment or result in data loss.

The Model JP7 Thermal Protector is intended for overheat protection of AC equipment in harsh industrial conditions and is packaged in a small size of just 17.0 mm x 7.3mm x 3.9 mm. Typical applications can be found in motors, transformers, solenoids, lighting fixtures, heating pads, heaters, and resistors for motor control. Performance characteristics include an operating temperature set range from 75°C to 150°C with tolerances of ±5°C ±7°C and ±10°C. Contact ratings are 8A/125V AC resistive and 5A/250V AC to 10,000 cycles. The device has UL, CSA, EN and COC agency approvals.

The Model JP7 sister's product, the EP2 Thermal Protector Series, incorporates the same mechanical design and dimensions as the JP7, but is enclosed with a different casing material designed specifically for thermal protection of low voltage DC equipment. The EP2 is well suited for thermal overheat protection for automotive air conditioners and accessory motors, inverter systems, PC boards, UPS, and switching power supplies. Temperature setpoint range is from 75°C - 130°C with tolerances of ±5°C ±7°C and ±10°C. Contact ratings are 26V/13A DC resistive to 10,000 cycles. Agency approvals include UL and CN.

The third model in the series, the Model BP Thermal Protector, is designed specifically for rechargeable battery packs to automatically shut-off voltage should the batteries overheat. This new thermal protector is available in four configurations to meet a wide variety of battery types, including Ni-Cd, Li-ion, and Ni-MH. All BP configurations have a differential temperature of 46° C or higher. Small in size - just 15.0 mm x 5.0 mm x 2.8 mm - chamfered edges allow a convenient flush-fit between battery cells. It features an operating temperature set range from 70°C - 100° C with tolerances of +5°C, +8°C, and +10°C. Contact ratings are 18V/5A DC resistive and 15V/15A DC resistive to 6,000 cycles. The BP Series can be ordered with various nickel strip, wire termination, and insulating sleeve options. Agency approvals include UL, CSA, and EN.

The new family of thermal protectors is priced at $2.60 net each standard list price for quantity: 1,000 unit price break with delivery in 4-6 weeks.
