Dual-Channel DC/DC Converter delivers 42 V outputs.

Press Release Summary:

Housed in 10-lead, 3 x 3 mm DFN package with 0.75 mm profile, LT3471 can be configured as dual boost, boost/inverter, or dual inverter. Output voltage error amplifiers can sense to ground, providing boost or inverting control capability. With input voltage range of 2.4-16 V, 1.3 A, 1.2 MHz converter employs constant frequency current mode PWM architecture, VCESAT bipolar switches, and programmable soft-start function. Product switches at 1.2 MHz.

Dual 1.3A, 1.2MHz Boost and Inverting DC/DC Converter Delivers Big Power in 9mm²

Milpitas, CA - November 8, 2004 - Linear Technology Corporation announces the LT3471, a dual channel (boost/inverter), 1.3A, 1.2MHz DC/DC converter packaged in a 3mm x 3mm DFN. It can be configured as a dual boost, a boost/inverter, or a dual inverter, since the output voltage error amplifiers can sense to ground, providing boost or inverting control capability. The LT3471 input voltage range of 2.4V to 16V makes it ideal for Li-Ion, multiple cell Alkaline/NiMH batteries, as well as 12V power. The device's low VCESAT bipolar switches enable it to deliver 42V high current outputs from a tiny 9mm2 package. The LT3471 switches at 1.2MHz, allowing the use of tiny, low cost, low profile inductors and capacitors. High inrush current at start-up is eliminated using a programmable soft-start function, where an external RC sets the current ramp rate. A constant frequency current mode PWM architecture results in low, predictable output noise that is easy to filter.

The LT3471 switches are rated at 42V, making the device ideal for boost converters up to 40V as well as SEPIC and flyback designs. Each channel can generate 5V at up to 630mA from a 3.3V supply, or 5V at 360mA from four alkaline cells in a SEPIC design. The LT3471 is available in a low profile (0.75mm) 10-lead 3mm x 3mm DFN package, providing the smallest solution for high current dual boost/inverter applications.

The LT3471EDD is available from stock and pricing starts at $2.80 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
