Skil Introduces Leading Edge 10.8V Lithium Ion Drill/Driver

New drill/driver boasts half the weight of NiMH or NiCd drills with superior performance

Mt. Prospect, Ill., August 28, 2006 - The new Skil 2410 Lithium Ion drill/driver combines a surprisingly small size and weight with amazing power guaranteed to dazzle even the most skeptical users. While this compact drill weighs in at just 1.7 pounds, its power and performance equal that of traditionally much bulkier and heavier cordless NiCd drill/drivers. All this, thanks to a Lithium Ion battery paired with a series of innovative and state-of-the-art features.

The lightweight, compact design on the 2410 drill/driver gives DIYers an easy-to-handle drill with the capacity to tackle serious work. The tool gets the job done with ease when tackling such projects as building a small deck, assembling cabinetry, putting up drywall or replacing window shutters. This compact powerhouse also keeps its charge for up to 18 months of non-use to easily respond to unexpected repairs or projects. The Lithium Ion battery also allows the tool to be fully recharged anytime - no need to drain the battery before charging it.

In addition to Lithium Ion battery technology, a one of a kind electronic control panel on the foot of the drill offers DIYers great versatility and control. First, a built-in electronic clutch is operated by a convenient torque dial for accurate adjustment. The electronic clutch conveniently turns off the motor when the desired torque is reached, which means less wear and tear on the drill than a conventional mechanical clutch. Second, a tri-level battery gauge meter shows the level of charge remaining in the tool, which allows the user to plan when he/she needs to charge it again. Finally, a powerful built-in work light provides needed relief in darker areas.

Like the Skil iXO(TM) Lithium Ion screwdriver introduced during the spring of 2005, the 2410 offers Skil's advanced charging technology. The cradle acts as a charger and a convenient storage station. Even after the tool has finished charging it can remain on the charger without affecting battery life since the charging technology turns off automatically. Users can easily find the tool anytime it is needed knowing it will be ready for their task.

To make this tool even more user-friendly, it features a ¼" hex quick change chuck which makes swapping bits a breeze. Two built-in directional LEDs clearly show which way the bit is spinning, while an ergonomic soft grip handle provides added comfort for prolonged use. Finally, the 2410 Lithium Ion drill/driver comes as a full kit with a 14 piece bit set, which includes drilling and driving bits, the convenient cradle charger and a functional carrying bag.

"With the new 2410 Lithium Ion drill/driver, Skil continues to offer tool users the proven convenience of an 'always ready to go' tool," said Christelle Imhof, product manager for Skil Power Tools. Even when DIYers tackle such jobs as installing kitchen cabinets or building a new fence, charging the drill/driver for several hours before getting started is not always practical or planned. The 2410 provides outstanding convenience since it can be stored on the charger while keeping its charge off the charger for up to 18 months. This new drill/driver will get the job done whenever the project is kicked off."

Skil introduced the first Lithium Ion screwdriver to the North American DIY market in May 2005 - the Skil iXO, a palm sized screwdriver. With its newest Lithium Ion innovation - the 2410 drill/driver-Skil confirms it is a leader in the new generation of cordless technology. The new 2410 10.8V drill/driver will be available at home improvement retailers nationwide in November with a suggested manufacturers' retail price of $79.99.
