KnowledgeTree(TM) Open Source Document Management Software Now in Version 3.1

Version 3.1 Adds Significant Support for International Languages, New Workflow Plugins, Extended Records Management Capabilities and a New, Less Restrictive Open Source License

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, August 1// -- KnowledgeTree(TM), the world's leading open source document management system, has released Version 3.1 of the KnowledgeTree Open Source Edition, now with significant enhancements and a new open source license.

"KnowledgeTree now offers significantly enhanced support for documents and document metadata written in international languages," says Daniel Chalef of KnowledgeTree developers Jam Warehouse. "KnowledgeTree is proving very attractive in the fast-growing Chinese market and we now offer strong support for ideographic languages such as Simplified and Traditional Chinese."

Additional new features include an extensible workflow trigger system that allows custom actions to be executed from within workflows. "It's a significant extension to the developer API and offers a powerful new addition to our workflow capabilities," says Chalef.

Other new features include the ability to make documents immutable, providing enhanced security and ease of use in records management environments.

The new version of KnowledgeTree Open Source Edition has been released under the new KnowledgeTree Public License, a derivative of the popular Mozilla Public License, allowing significantly enhanced commercial usage of the KnowledgeTree source code. "The KnowledgeTree Open Source code may now be more readily combined with works licensed under different terms, allowing more extensive use by 3rd-party developers and systems integrators," says Chalef.

KnowledgeTree, built on the popular open source LAMP (Apache/MySQL/PHP) stack, has been downloaded more than 190,000 times to date. It is being used by Fortune 500 companies, community organizations, local and state governments and educational and scientific institutions around the world.

The application is also available in a commercially supported version, KnowledgeTree Professional, that offers additional functionality including a WebDAV Integration Server and Client Tools for Windows, providing a familiar Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office interface into the document repository and direct-to-repository scanning capability.
