Do-It To Produce PPE Face Shields

Do-It Corporation has recently designed and started production of a low-cost, disposable, plastic face shield for use by first responders and area health organizations as they address the Coronavirus COVID-19 Emergency.

The clear face shield is based closely on a design created by New York University’s COVID-19 Task Force to address the critical supply shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) among healthcare workers around the world. The university is now offering the design freely to manufacturers in an effort to quickly increase availability of these items to those in dire need of PPE.

Using existing materials, equipment, and production methods, Do It Corporation is capable of producing several thousand face shields each week. “This item is right in our wheelhouse. We are ready to quickly and inexpensively produce a face shield that can be used one time, as needed, and then disposed,” said Mark McClendon, President of Do It Corporation.

Do-It classifies these as economy face shields that require some basic self-assembly and are not intended to be considered surgical or medical grade. They are designed for first responders, food service workers, nursing home care workers, health care workers at Covid-19 testing stations, retail cashiers and non-intensive care – non-surgical health care workers. The clear plastic face shield does not have anti-fog, anti-glare, or anti-scratch coatings. How this face shield attaches to your head allows for ventilation around the forehead limiting any potential fog of the mask.

This product is shipped with 100 face shields, 100 Forehead Straps, and 100 Head Straps per box.  Each box also includes an assembly instruction sheet. A YouTube video is also available to show how to quickly assemble the mask (video YouTube address: https://youtu.be/ABU6_PEMfps).

Since 1973, Do-It Corporation has been designing and producing plastic retail display components to various industries around the world including critical businesses that provide food, medical supply, and personal care products. Two existing Do-It Products — the SHC and SHD Carry Handles — are repurposed for use with this face shield. “This mask fits our core business really well. We were looking for a way to help fight this virus. We believe that this mask can be helpful to first responders or anyone who has to work with the public during this coronavirus emergency,” said McClendon.
