Press Release Summary:
Suited for single-mode fiber and LEAF® transmission fibers, low-loss Dispersion Compensation Module (DCM®) maintains all critical optical specifications of standard dispersion management solutions while reducing optical power loss. Product also allows for broad hut-skipping deployment, which places DCMs in network at every other node instead of every node.

Avanex Introduces a Low-Loss DCM®
FREMONT, Calif., March 28 / -- Avanex Corporation (NASDAQ:AVNX) a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next- generation optical networks, today introduced a low-loss Dispersion Compensation Module (DCM(R)) for both single-mode fiber and LEAF(R) transmission fibers.
Lowering DCM loss allows for longer span lengths without redesigning or adding cost to existing network architectures. Avanex's new low-loss DCM maintains all critical optical specifications of its standard dispersion management solutions while dramatically reducing optical loss. The new low- loss DCM, which reduces the optical power loss of the DCM by almost 50 percent, also allows for broader hut-skipping deployment which places DCMs in the network at every other node instead of every node, significantly reducing network costs.
"These fiber-based DCMs have an extremely long history of reliability, technical performance and value," said Dr. Giovanni Barbarossa, chief technology officer of Avanex. "The technical challenge of substantially lowering DCM loss without compromising other performance attributes has previously prevented the introduction of these higher performing products. Avanex has achieved this low-loss technology by a combination of improved dispersion compensating fiber and advances in our proprietary assembly techniques. The introduction of these new low-loss DCMs reaffirms Avanex's commitment to its customers to supply innovative and value oriented products."
