Thomas & Betts Patented Sta-Kon® Disconnect Installation Tool Facilitates Installation While Protecting Installers' Hands
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - December 5, 2005 - The installation of disconnect terminals has become easier on the installer's hands with the introduction of Thomas & Betts' patented Sta-Kon® Disconnect Installation Tool, the first tool in the industry to eliminate manual installation. With both ends slotted to fit disconnect terminals ranging from 22 to 10 AWG, the Disconnect Installation Tool is channeled to protect wires crimped to the disconnect terminals. Each end of the tool includes color-coded dots that correspond to the color-coding of disconnect terminals: on one end, red and blue dots correspond to red and blue male and female disconnect terminals; on the other end, yellow dots correspond to yellow disconnect terminals. Once the end of the tool is matched to the disconnect terminal, the installer only needs to push down to install the terminal.
"Because our disconnects are designed to remain securely seated under vibration," said Dan Vega, product manager for Thomas & Betts' Industrial Products Group, "they can be difficult to install by hand. The Sta-Kon Disconnect Installation Tool is unique in being the only tool in the industry designed to install disconnect terminals.
"This product was developed in response to a specific application involving a panel with several auxiliary contacts, which required many disconnect installations. They used a metal nut driver to help the installer seat our disconnect terminals more easily and without any strain or injury to the installer's hands. When we saw this, we decided to design a tool specifically for this purpose. It speeds the installation and removal of disconnects while protecting the hands of the installer."
Constructed of hardened plastic, the Sta-Kon® Disconnect Installation Tool is lightweight and durable. At 5 1/4 inches long, it is shaped like a pen, and includes a clip to fit a shirt pocket or pocket protector.
