Digital Unilux Stroboscopic Inspection Light Systems

Cover Full Webs Of All Widths At Labelexpo Europe

SADDLE BROOK, NJ Aug. 14, 2007 - Unilux is going digital at Labelexpo Europe 2007, Sept. 26 to 29 in Brussels. The world's leading designer and manufacturer of stroboscopic surface inspection lighting systems for the printing and converting industries, will display a full line of Lith-O-Light series strobe lights with fully digital controls, featuring the new LOL-5, Guardian and Style IV lights and the battery-powered Tracker handheld light with a spot pattern. Unilux will be in Stand 7L135 with Euroto, the company's United Kingdom-based sales/service representative.

"Our digital Lith-O-Light series gives customers what they've asked for - more features and a lower price," said Mike Simonis, president. "Our new LOL-5, for example, combines the features of four units - remote control, digital readout and intensity control - into one at the same cost of our lowest-cost configuration. The LOL-5 and our larger Guardian lights now operate with a digital control for even greater flexibility. For the wider webs we have totally redesigned the LOL-20 and 40 into the style IV with features such as digital readouts, remote controls and twice the power of the older analog units - again at the price of the lowest-cost configuration. It's just a great unit with its built-in tracking for presses, slitters and rewinders.

"Digital technology has made our customers the winners in surface inspection technology," he continued. "As with all electronics, we can put a lot more function into a much smaller product and lower our manufacturing cost per unit through lower material costs and greater economies of scale. This puts a high-quality, cost effective inspection tool within the budget of more label printers and packaging converters, enabling them to compete in bigger and better markets."

Unilux's full line of Lith-O-Lights at Labelexpo Europe will cover a full range of web widths from 5cm (2 in) to almost 2.4m (8 ft) wide. The new Tracker spot strobe illuminates a 61cm (24-in) area from a distance of 0.9m (3 ft). Unilux also will demonstrate its UV Illumination Kit for the Lith-O-Light series that enable black-light inspection of clear and UV coatings used for security and anti-counterfeiting applications.

Unilux stroboscopic inspection lights enable press operators and inspectors to spot defects at full production speeds by using the stroboscopic effect to essentially freeze images of fast-moving lines. Hands-free operation can be achieved by synchronizing inspection systems to line speed with Unilux's microprocessor-based, programmable controllers. Using the UV Illumination Kit provides the ability to make sure clear and UV coatings are properly applied for security and anti-counterfeiting measures or to protect vital product information.

Random coating skips, pickups, fish eye, gel, dirt, streaks, fog, pin holes, color changes and registration problems are easily seen. Fixed-mounted lights can provide inspection capability at strategic points along a press run, and battery-powered handheld lights can be used to pinpoint the causes of defects and determine if the press needs to be adjusted or stopped. Unilux lights help to greatly reduce waste, increase yield, and improve inspection confidence as well as customer satisfaction.

The LOL-20 and -40 units can be slaved to cover widths from 40 to 250cm (16 to 96in), and their slender style allows easy mounting in constricted areas. For narrower lines, the LOL-2½, -5 and -10 will cover strips from 10 to 46cm (4 to 16 in), and the LOL-2 ½ and -5 can be mounted on swivel mounts or articulating arms for positioning anywhere on rewind tables or printing presses.

For portability the LOL-2½ and -5 and the Tracker are battery-operated for mobility anywhere in a plant. They will supply up to an hour of continuous use or an entire shift of intermittent spot-checking before recharging. The Tracker provides bright illumination from 0.9 to 1.5m.
