NeoMagic® Corporation Announces High Performance Digital Mobile TV Solution Designed for Quick, Cost Effective Implementation into Existing Worldwide Feature Phone Architectures

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 13 -- NeoMagic Corporation (NASDAQ:NMGC), a leader and pioneer of solutions for advanced multimedia on mobile phones and handheld devices, announced today, development of its NeoMobileTV Digital Mobile Television semiconductor solution. The NeoMobileTV solution allows phone designers to quickly and cost-effectively add mobile TV functionality to their existing feature phone platforms targeted for value priced handsets. This solution, compatible with the major global mobile TV industry standards (ISDB-T, X-DMB, and DVB-H), is expected to be available for phone designers in Q2 2006.

Development of the NeoMobileTV solution leverages NeoMagic's experience implementing mobile TV solutions. Building on NeoMagic's proprietary parallel processing multimedia engine, and incorporating a simplified feature set, the NeoMobileTV solution delivers mobile TV functionality at low power, with a simple interface to existing feature phone platforms. With the NeoMobileTV solution, mobile TV may be added to low-cost voice- or camera-only feature phones with target selling points of sub-$150 MSRP.

"The development of NeoMobileTV, NeoMagic's digital mobile TV solution, is another leap forward for the mobile TV market. Handset manufacturers can now add high performance broadcast TV to their current low-cost feature phone platforms," said Mr. Doug Young, NeoMagic Corporation's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Our solution addresses the need for handset manufacturers to get to market quickly with a complete, standards-based mobile TV solution set. It is compatible with current feature phone architectures, and demonstrates NeoMagic's market-leading innovation."

High quality multi-standard video and audio

A positive consumer front-of-screen experience is critical for mobile TV to reach widespread adoption. NeoMagic's solution enables handset manufacturers and operators to achieve that goal.

-- A multimedia engine based on parallel processing architecture enables flexible video/audio decoding at low power and low clock frequencies (sub-100MHz).

-- QVGA, CIF, and VGA decoding of mobile TV video formats such as H.264, Windows Media 9 (also known as VC-1, the video standard adopted by SMPTE), MPEG-4, and DIVX at frame rates up to 30fps.

-- Simultaneous decoding of selected audio formats for broadcast mobile TV including AMR, AAC, HE-AAC, and MP3.

-- Support for ISDB-T, X-DMB (E-DMB, T-DMB), and DVB-H mobile TV broadcast formats.

Simple integration into existing low-cost Feature Phone platforms

Adding a mobile TV solution to existing phone designs without changing the designers' investment in underlying phone software, OS, user interface and operator qualifications, is essential in order to reach phone mass-market target price points. The NeoMobileTV solution has been developed to drop-in to an existing handset design along with a mobile TV RF tuner and demodulator with minimal re-design.

-- Simple parallel interface eases the connection to customer-selected 2.5G/3G or CDMA baseband.

-- LCD Display pass-through allows the baseband to control the display, while allowing the NeoMobileTV to deliver decoded TV images to the display as an overlay to the baseband images.

Low power

The NeoMobileTV solution is expected to enable 4-7 hours or more of battery life while watching mobile TV depending on the choice of mobile TV RF tuner, demodulator, LCD display and phone battery.

-- The unique multimedia engine, together with dynamic clock management, and low power modes, allows the NeoMobileTV solution to deliver mobile TV video and audio at an expected core power consumption of sub-100mW. This is while decoding simultaneous H.264 QVGA video and HE-AAC audio at a typical 384kbs for many mobile TV broadcast formats.

Small board area and low system cost

A phone designer must minimize overall phone volume and solution cost, yet maximize space available for the display and battery. The NeoMobileTV helps the designer add mobile TV quickly and cost effectively.

-- Internal integration of a tunable 27.000000MHz crystal oscillator circuit to deliver the most accurate timing for broadcast synchronization and time stamps (i.e. MPEG-2 Transport Stream time stamps). This represents a sizable cost and board space savings to the phone designer.

-- The single-package NeoMobileTV solution incorporates on-board the necessary memory for video and audio synchronization and processing, saving both space and power.

Availability and Pricing

The NeoMobileTV solution saves power, board space, and cost for the mobile TV phone designer, yet is expected to add less than $15 to the phone bill of materials in volume quantities and is expected to be available for customer sampling in Q2 2006.

The solution includes the semiconductor device, and the software needed for mobile TV processing. A set of drivers allows the handset designer to customize their platform based on the target requirements and their choice of mobile TV RF tuner and demodulator.
