Digital Microscopy Camera utilizes piezoelectric technology.

Press Release Summary:

FocusScope FV-100C real-time, full-color, all-in-focus camera combines high-speed image processing with piezoelectric technology. CMOS imager operates at 1,000 fps to provide focal range over 100 microns, which is output at 30 fps NTSC video. Topographical data for each image can also be displayed and recorded in form of gray scale depth map. Data and all-in-focus video at 512 x 512 pixel resolution is output via BNC connectors in NTSC, AVI, or bitmap formats.

Photron's New All-in-Focus, Ultra High Speed Microscopy Camera

June 21, 2004 - San Diego, CA - Photron USA, Inc., a global manufacturer of high resolution, high speed motion analysis cameras, introduces the FocusScope FV-100C microscopy camera. This real-time, full-color, all-in-focus digital microscopy camera system combines high speed image processing with piezoelectric technology. The light sensitive CMOS imager operates at 1000 fps (frames per second) to provide a focal range of over 100 microns that is output at normal 30 fps NTSC video. This combination of high speed imaging and piezoelectric technologies results in a remarkable increase of achievable depth of focus of over one hundred times that attainable with conventional microscope video cameras.

The objective lens on the microscope moves up and down at 15 Hz while the imager captures 1000 frames. Each picture is then "scanned" in real time by the dedicated image analysis hardware to identify the sharply focused pixels contained in each frame. The selected in-focus pixels are overlaid and reconstructed to form thirty all-in-focus images a second. This results in NTSC video output of thirty sharply focused, full-color frames of the specimen or object, every second.

Topographical data for each image can also be displayed and recorded in the form of a gray scale "depth map". The data and the all-in-focus video at 512 X 512 pixel resolution is output via BNC connectors in NTSC, AVI or bitmap formats. FocusScope is also configured with CameraLink. Compatible with Windows 2000 or XP operating systems, Photron's FocusScope has a standard C-mount for adaptation to any upright microscope.

Applications include micro assembly operations, biomedical, industrial inspection or other processes that may require microscopic visual detection for a manipulative operation.

Photron USA will be exhibiting at the Microscopy & Microanalysis Annual Meeting in Savannah, Georgia, August 1-5, 2004. Stop by booth # 927 for a product demonstration.
