Digital Data Transceivers operate over optical fiber.

Press Release Summary:

Multi-protocol 480 Series transmits and receives single channel of data - RS485, RS422, RS232, or Manchester Code - over one singlemode optical fiber, while 487 Series transmits and receives 2 RS485 signals over one optical fiber. Digital data systems in 487 Series, configurable for 2- or 4-wire operation, can be biased or non-biased and terminated or not by selectable dip switches. Series 480 is completely transparent to data protocol.

American Fibertek Showcases Digital Fiber Optic Data Transceivers

New 480 & 487 Series Provides Bi-Directional RS485 Transmission Over Optical Fiber.

Las Vegas, NV (April 6, 2005) - American Fibertek, Inc. (AFI) is displaying the company's new 480 and 487 Series Digital Data Systems here at ISCW 2005. The fiber optic transceivers are designed to transmit and receive RS485 signals over optical fiber providing systems designers with a highly efficient transmission solution for network based security systems. The multi-protocol 480 Series transmits and receives a single channel of data (RS485, RS422, RS232 or Manchester Code) over a single singlemode optical fiber. For complex systems configurations, the company's 487 Series transmits and receives two RS485 signals over a single optical fiber.

"Transmission products that can accommodate new hybrid systems products are instrumental in sustaining the industry's migration to a networked platform," said Jack Fernandes, President and CEO of AFI. "Our new 487 Series Data Systems provide an important bridge for system applications that incorporate both traditional analog and new digital security devices."

AFI's 487 Series transmits and receives two RS485 data signals over a single optical fiber. For ease of installation, the units can be configured for either two or four wire operation with the flip of a switch. As part of the product operation, the units can be biased or non-biased and terminated or not by selectable dip switches, and include diagnostic indicators for quick visual indication of system status. The 487 Series Data Systems' field modules are shipped with power supplies. Rack card transceivers are designed for compatibility with American Fibertek's SR-20/2 Card Cages.

The 480 Series Multi-Protocol Data System transmits and receives a single channel of data (RS485, RS422, RS232 or Manchester Code) over a single multimode or singlemode optical fiber and is completely transparent to data protocol. For ease of installation, diagnostic indicators provide a quick visual indication of system status. Units can be ordered as stand alone modules or rack cards for use in the AFI card cages.
