DesktopStandard Releases PolicyMaker(TM)Software Development Kit

PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Nov. 10 / -- DesktopStandard Corporation, the leading developer of Group Policy-based desktop management products, today announced the general availability of its Software Development Kit for extending its award-winning PolicyMaker(TM) and ProfileMaker(R) products. PolicyMaker, the first Group Policy Extension product, was recently voted the Most Innovative Product of 2005 by Readers of Windows IT Pro. With the release of the SDK, PolicyMaker continues this innovation by becoming the first Group Policy product to support third party extensibility. Group Policy is the core management technology built into Microsoft Active Directory networks and Windows computers.

Designed specifically for managed networks and network segments that cannot be managed with Group Policy, the new ProfileMaker 9 release also supports the PolicyMaker SDK. The SDK allows organizations to easily create Group Policy plug-ins to PolicyMaker which also work with ProfileMaker. Both products share a similar set of capabilities, data portability, and user interface and, with the release of the SDK, now support a common extensibility model.

According to Jeremy Moskowitz, founder of Moskowitz, inc. / GPanswers.com and noted Group Policy expert, "The PolicyMaker SDK enables us to provide our customers custom solutions to their Group Policy problems. We're looking forward to releasing our first suite of products based on the SDK, to tackle everyday issues faced by administrators everywhere." Joe Stern, Director of Information Technology at National Analysts stated, "GPanswers.com / Moskowitz, inc. has always been the authoritative source for Group Policy training. Now, we're really excited that there will be custom Group Policy- based solutions available for our particular desktop administration needs."

ProfileMaker 9 brings a number of enhancements in addition to extensibility, including features to automatically configure Microsoft Outlook signatures using dynamic data drawn from Active Directory, and configurability of Remote Procedure Call (RPC) over HTTP, which allows an Outlook client to exchange information without running into problems with firewalls. The new version also enhances the patent-pending printer management features, including new support for Local Printer configuration and significant enhancements to TCP/IP and Shared Printer policy. New filters have been added allowing administrators to dynamically integrate Active Directory and Windows Installer information into individual policies.

PolicyMaker SDK is a free software development kit that includes code for a sample application plug-in and a sample MAPI service plug-in. The SDK allows software developers to modify sample code in order to easily create plug-ins to DesktopStandard's products, in the form of custom policy settings with rich user interface. The SDK includes complete with instructions outlining the steps necessary to create plug-ins to PolicyMaker Standard Edition and ProfileMaker Professional Edition.

The PolicyMaker SDK and ProfileMaker 9 are generally available immediately. ProfileMaker 9 is priced at $12.35 per seat including Upgrade Assurance and Premium Technical Support.
