Design Software leverages v5 PLM engineering desktop.

Press Release Summary:

CATIA v5.15 delivers flexible design environment for VPM Navigator as well as multiple PLM relational design practices. It uses 3D XML format to share 3D representations throughout extended enterprise and enables users to create conceptual designs in 3D environment using 2D conceptual sketching and view layout capabilities. Able to capture shapes from simulations or real-world product tests, software also supports mixed 32-bit/64-bit environment with AIX 64-bit support.

Original Press Release:

CATIA V5.15 Leverages the V5 PLM Engineering Desktop to Speed Innovation

At a glance

CATIA V5.15 delivers seven new products and enhances over 60 previously announced products. This release:

Accelerates V5 Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) adoption by enhancing the VPM1 Navigator, increasing the flexibility of the design environment, and expanding PLM relational design practices.

Uses the 3D XML format to make it easy to share high-quality 3D representations throughout the extended enterprise.

Enables users to create conceptual designs in a 3D environment using comprehensive and familiar 2D conceptual sketching and view layout capabilities.

Captures realistic shapes from simulations or real-world product tests to further shrink the distinction between virtual and real products.

Further protects customer investment in a combined 32-bit/64-bit environment by extending AIX 64-bit support to the entire CATIA V5 portfolio.

Overview

Product, process, resources: V5.15 builds on V5 PLM success by further strengthening and extending VPM, the leading solution for product engineering. Significant enhancements to the VPM Navigator increase flexibility in the design environment and help customers to deploy relational design practices. These enhancements reinforce concurrent engineering, reducing cycle time and increasing market responsiveness.

Collaborative workspace: V5.15 leverages the open and extremely lightweight 3D XML format so that customers can quickly and easily share high-quality 3D representations of the virtual product throughout the extended enterprise. Collaborative engineering between OEMs and suppliers is expanded by strengthening capacities for engineering package exchange and reconciliation.

This further encourages faster and more frequent design iterations while preserving the engineering relationships throughout the complete product definition.

Process-centric: V5.15 strengthens CATIA V5's leadership position in the coverage of business processes by delivering breakthrough technologies that improve productivity and innovation for all industries. This release introduces a unique approach for conceptual design in the 3D environment using comprehensive and familiar 2D conceptual sketching and view layout capabilities.

CATIA V5.15 also offers an unrivaled solution for electrical and electronics and consumer goods companies by strengthening the pioneering Imagine & Shape product, by further enhancing the unique functional modeling approach, and by reinforcing ground-breaking technology for creating offset surfaces.

In V5.15, the distinction between the virtual product and reality shrinks even further with the ability to capture realistic shapes from simulations or from real-world product tests, by delivering unprecedented realism for cable behavior during electrical harness design, and by extending finite element analysis to allow simulation of the fully assembled product.

Knowledge: In V5.15, small- and medium-sized businesses take full benefit from the power of V5 PLM to capitalize on expertise. The new Generative Mechanical Design Practices for Industrial Products improve design productivity by capturing company know-how in engineering templates. These templates incorporate standard parts components and knowledge rules that reflect best-so-far design practices and past experience.

Enhancements to the SMARTEAM - CATIA Integration product further demonstrate V5.15 productivity as an entry-level PLM solution.

CAA2: V5.15 further protects customer investments in a combined 32-bit/64-bit environment by extending AIX® 64-bit support to the entire CATIA portfolio.
